Default I'm embarrassed

I've always been pretty paranoid of people talking about me and judging me, but lets be honest, who isn't? Well, anyways, I started dieting about 3 months ago, and I lost quite a bit, when I was down about 20 pounds (started at 293), I went and signed up at the gym with a friend of mine, well 15 minutes on the elliptical...

I passed out.

So, fast forward about a month, I'm down another 20 pounds, and I never cancelled my membership. Now I've decided I need to get back but I'm just worried that it'll happen again, or that people will remember me and silently judge me. I know it's stupid but I just don't know what to do. I figure next time I'll take it easier and start on the bike, and definitely eat more before I go but I guess I'm just worried I'll drop again.

I'm guessing that those people who noticed were concerned and not judgemental. Consider going back and either going on the bike like you mentioned, or just doing a few minutes on the elliptical. 15 minutes on the elliptical for a first-timer is pretty much heroic; most people can only do a few minutes the first time before they feel like dying. Work up to it a little more slowly and you should be good.

Be brave. I've found that most people at the gym are there to focus on themselves and their own workout and won't pay much (if any) attention to what you're doing. If anyone has the nerve to say anything, you could always smile and murmur something about low blood sugar.

Good luck!

Hopefully the gym has someone who can show you how to use the different machines etc and who can recommend which are the best ones for you and what speeds to go at etc etc

Had you had any food the day before you went to the gym? I cant workout first thing in the morning for that reason.

Unless there is another gym in the area you can go to, I would just dust myself off and go on back in. Chances are no one from the clientele will remember you and if the staff do they (SHOULD BE!) too professional to say anything, so dont sweat it

You just go in and do what you need to - safely!

I will tell you a little story of my ghastly gym experience. I was doing pilates in a class of 3 people (its a private studio) and I was at my peak of 268lbs. So it was me and these two tiny little ballerina's. And my friend who is the instructor got us to do some twisty stretch thing where I was like on one knee and had to reach back and catch my foot for a stretch. Well. I fell over. ALMOST onto the tiny person next to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didnt want to go back, but I did.

Don’t be embarrassed apb. My first year of college I decided to join a gym and after a few weeks of working out I started feeling more confident. I decided to join a group of women (that I didn’t know) in a morning circuit. Well don’t you know that I decided to do a fancy little move on a step bench and totally wiped out. I was sooo embarrassed, but no one laughed at me. I just got up and kept going. Needless to say I thought twice before attempting that move again.

My point is that when we fall (and we ALL will) we need to get up and keep going.

You can do it apb! And congratulations on your weight loss!!

I wipe out all the time, and have since I started - at the gym, on my bike, running, even just walking in the mall (my latest episode) and have the scars and bruises to prove it, I like to call them "sports injuries" and I wear them proudly! Go back, hold your head high, and know you are doing more than 90% of the population out there. If I had seen (and remembered) something like that, I would have nothing but admiration for you for "getting back on the horse" JMHO

I don't go to a gym but when I was much younger -- in my teens I think -- I did. Can I even tell you -- passing out on the eliptical? Psh-shaw! I fell off the freaking treadmill! Just slid right back and onto the ground for everyone to see.

So seriously, don't even worry about it. Just go and do what you need to do for you.

I have a similar story. I was on the tredmill with my sister in law and all of the sudden the tredmill does this jumpstart thing and I land on my knees and roll off. It was embarrasing and people saw, but I still kept going after. Dont worry about your passing out. Take it easy it will be fine. :-)

Don't be embarrassed! and congratulations on your weightloss and determination.

Assuming there are staff members there, and there ought to be, I would be concerned if they Didn't remember and ask. If you passed out rather than fell off, they should be there making very sure you're healthy enough to be doing this. I'm not saying you're not, I'm saying they d. well should be checking. Exercising until you lose consciousness is not a good thing! (I know you know that, I'm saying they ought to be showing the know it too).

Ah, dear, almost all of us have those gym mishaps... I stepped on the next persons treadmill and went flying almost like this little guy but I dusted myself off and got right back on just like the little guy ...

Just a couple of weeks ago I was feeling insecure about the way I had tied my hair... My g/f said: « It's none of your business what anyone thinks about you. » I laughed, but ain't it the truth?

I also like my siggie quote...« Falling down is not failure....Failure is staying down. »

I like to think that no one is judging me at the gym because they're thinking the same thing. Am I judging them??

But I just block them out, I mean, I'm there to do a job, to work out, and if they want to look or talk about me...let them. I can't change their minds, and their talk won't affect my weight either way.

Though I do get sometimes worry if my girls on top are being stared at. Are they staying in place? Are they behaving and staying snuggly in the bra? Is someone looking at my chest and then some guy is getting off on it? And so on. I think we're all insecure at some point.

Honestly, at the gym if I judge or think about anyone else it's those skinny girls who come in with their hair perfectly coiffed and full makeup in their tight little shorts and tops who sprint on the treadmill, don't break a sweat and get off looking PERFECT. What is UP with them? I much prefer seeing other people actually WORKING.

And, most people probably won't remember the incident at all. If anyone comments, just respond with humor. "Don't worry--I promise I won't faint again!"

This stuff happens all the time at the gym. People fall down, pass out, throw up, you name it. I think that chances are that everyone has completely forgotten about it by now. And, as evidenced by the stories on this thread, most of us have our own embarrassing moments at the gym. When I see something like that happen to someone else at the gym, my first thought is usually "there, but for the grace of God, go I..."
