Life Law #1: You Either Get It, or You Don't
Start getting real.
Why do you want to lose weight? Write it down.
What are you doing--or not doing--to lose weight?
Pinpoint ten patterns of living that you have accepted without question. example: putting off your exercise or snacking when you're not hungry.
Start getting real. Why do you want to lose weight? Write it down.
I Think if I had to sum up WHY I wanted to lose weight into ONE short summary, I want to look better for my husband and be at a weight that is safer to get pregnant. Am I doing this for myself? Yes to a certain extent, but if you know my story, a lot of it is motivated by my husband.
What are you doing--or not doing--to lose weight? Pinpoint ten patterns of living that you have accepted without question. For example: putting off your exercise or snacking when you're not hungry.
I think there are a lot of "habits" in my life I'm having to change. AKA Bad Patterns of Living I've accepted...
1. Snacking when I want to eat, but I'm not necessarily hungry. I'm a HUGE mood eater. I choose to eat rather than do more beneficial things, like go for a walk, read a book, write in my journal. Sometimes snacking is an activity I choose to do, just like reading, or being on the computer, etc.
2. Finding any excuse not to exercise.
3. Not drinking because I hate going to the bathroom all the time.
4. Choosing what I WANT to eat over what I SHOULD eat. (AKA I'm hungry, I have a choice between green beans or doritos, I choose the Doritos. I like them both the same, but I choose the "convenience" food, over the one that takes more time to cook.)
5. Eating out instead of making dinner. I have plenty of time to make dinner most of the time, I just choose not to for convenience sake.
6. Making excuses for why its OK to eat something: It's a holiday, points don't count, I walked today, points don't count.
7. Rewarding myself with food.
8. Using food to socialize (Going out to dinner with friends, making "fattier" foods because they "won't like" W.W. friendly meals...
9. Using stress in my life as an excuse to eat whatever I want.
10. Basing how hard I work on trying to lose weight on how much others (specifically hubby) notice.
Why do I want to lose weight? For about a thousand reasons, but my top four are: to look better, to feel better about myself, to be healthier, and to wear whatever I want rather that whatever fits.
What am I doing to lose weight? I'm following WW, being good about keeping my journal even when I don't have a perfect day, I'm drinking a gallon of water a day, and I'm getting support through this board.
What am I not doing to lose weight? I'm not exercising much. I need to make it a part of my daily routine. Sometimes I nibble, but I am very accountable for it (i.e., putting it in my journal)
Pinpoint ten patterns of living that you have accepted without question.
I truly don't understand this question. I accept that I journal every day without question. I accept that I drink at least a gallon of water a day without question. I do not accept that I don't exercise - I do accept that I don't schedule enough time for it. Is that what this question means?
I think the 'patterns of living' refers to things that you do out of habit, he is trying to get you to think about things you do on a daily basis that are not good for you and you could change.

Why do I want to lose weight...I want to lose weight so that I look and feel better, that I improve my overall health and live and longer and healthier life, that I can play with my son without getting tired and I won't be a 'fat mommy' that he is going to be teased about and set a good example of him to follow, that I can feel more attractive and sexy to my husband.
What am I doing to lose weight...sticking to WW points plan, exercising daily and trying to drink more water.
10 patterns of living...I let myself get too hungry and then I snack and then eat a full meal later on, I think I'll do stuff "someday" instead of doing it today, I buy unhealthy food 'for the husband' not that he needs it either but end up eating it myself, I drink pop when I know I should drink water, I snack unthinkingly when watching tv or reading, I watch too much tv when I could be doing something more productive like exercising, I'd rather eat leftover food than throw it away but then don't count the points, I don't eat enough fruits & veggies even though I buy them, given the choice I'll eat cookies or crackers instead of a fruit or veggie, I'm sick and tired of cooking so I use that as an excuse to eat fast food.
Wow that was tough, really thinking about what you do on a daily basis without even knowing it. Well I certainly have a few patterns that need to be changed!
Why do you want to lose weight? I want to lose weight because I want to be healthy and look healthy for myself and for my kids and husband. I want to live a long and healthy life. I also want to feel energy to do things and not feel so sluggish all the time.
What are you doing--or not doing--to lose weight? Well so far I have been trying to drink more water and trying to watch the snacking. Also I would like to start choosing the better food choices for if we go out to eat(like those great new salads at Wendy's or McD's) or even at home.
Pinpoint ten patterns of living that you have accepted without question:
1. I should drink more water(so far I have made it to 1.3L a day but yesterday I got up to 2.6L).
2. I tend to eat/snack when in actual fact I should be drinking something instead(as I have found I don't drink near enough even if it is juice or the such if not water)
3. I lead a sedentary lifestyle.
4. I make excuses way too much
5. When we eat take out or fast food I make the wrong food choices.
6. I tend to eat more than I should at supper time because I am one that hates to waste food.
7. I use quite a bit of salt.
8. I always think I am hungry and go looking for something to eat even though my body isn't telling me I'm hungry
9. I eat pretty good with veggies(I like veggies), but I could eat more fruit.
10. I seem down a lot and I think this has to do with my weight, I need to become my spunky old self again like I was before kids.
So - What do you think it is that makes us want to eat even if we aren't hungry?
Playing devil's advocate.
BTW KNC/Jen- BEWARE Wendy's salad dressings! Even the light ones are LOADED with calories and Fat. IF you dump the salad dressing on there, you might as well get the double cheesburger!
I've gotta be totally honest . . .as much as I would love to be able to love myself enough to say that I'm doing it for me, I want respect and acceptance ~ I'm tired of being hurt by society.
I think on some level I want it for me, too, and I have dreams that I want to come true. I want to be light and healthy and attractive. And to be the "me" that I was put on this earth to be.
This discussion also makes me think of my favorite "Cathy" cartoon, where it shows Cathy and several other women at the gym. The others are all saying that they want to lose weight for themselves, that their bodies are temples and they respect them, etc. And then it shows Cathy sweating on the StairMaster, saying,
" I want to lose weight to make Andrea feel fat! And to make every man I've ever known sorry for having blown their big chance with me!"
I have a bit of that in me, to tell you the truth!

What am I doing and not doing to lose weight?
I'm trying to do this one day at a time, and forgive myself and get right back up when I mess up. I've already messed up this week, I have to confess. I'm mad at myself. But I'm not dismissing the notion of losing weight from my mind anymore, which is new for me. And I'm trying to exercise now. But I'm not staying fired up like I was ~ and I'm still working on the motivation, even though I have every reason in the world to lose weight!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The patterns I've accepted? TOO many. I've fallen in deep to the Fast Food trap. Plus eating just to enjoy the taste of something. Plus, being depressed about myself and then eating to make myself feel better.
I have heard of some people taking their own salad dressing with them from home in a small container(that fits in their purse or what ever, I think I would get one of those little salt and pepper shakers that have the lids that even seal off the holes and use that) and uses that instead of the other stuff. This way you have your light dressings with the great salad.
Easy - I wanna have a baby, and not only do I need to be healthier to get knocked up in the first place, but I've got to be able to keep up once it gets here! Oh, and I'd like to be a hottie - hehehe
What amd I doing/not doing to lose weight?
I'm following a modified low calorie/low carb food plan, drinking as much water as I can stand, and exercising 3-4 times/week.
Pinpoint 10 patterns of living that you have accepted without question:
1. If I exercise today, I get cookies, or some other treat in excess. (Excess being the key word there - I'm still working on this one)
2. When I go out with friends, there must be food involved. (I have yet to test this, but I'm lucky to have supportive friends and live in a decent sized city with lots to do)
3. It's ok to "go off plan" when I don't feel good.
4. It's ok to avoid exercise when I don't feel good.
5. It is easier to go out to eat than cook at home. (Actually, I'm "training" my DH after 12 years to contribute to meal preparation - we talk more, have more fun cooking, and eat better)
6. I must clean my plate, because children somewhere are starving.
7. I buy things at the grocery because my husband would like them. (Hey, he doesn't need them either!)
8. That takes too long! Exercise, cooking something healthy, etc...
9. Making food a "treat" - fancy dinner out, making cakes and pies, etc.
10. I need a couple of bites of something before I go to bed - I got into this when my DH was first diagnosed with diabetes. He needs the bedtime snack, but I don't!
I am ...
- improving my everyday activities.. trying to move more.
- exercising at least 3 times a weeks.
- drinking water!
- learning my body.. and how what I eat effects my weight.
Pinpoint ten patterns of living that you have accepted without question.
1. Fast food for pure convience and laziness.
2. Snacking when I'm not hungry
3. Eating right before bed.. or at very late hours.
4. Other then just everyday living.. all activies have vanished out of my life, If I couldn't do it sitting down.. I wouldn't do it
5. Eating just because it was there (ex. plate of cookies on cupboard.. I pass by.. plate of cookies gone)
6. Overeating..(I'm stuffed but that steak tastes sooo good.. I NEED to eat it all)
7. Every event is planned around food.. birthday parties.. beach outtings.. etc
8. Rewarding myself with food
9. I make excuses for everything.. why I can eat this.. why I didnt exercise today.. why I failed to stay OP
10. Low self-esteem (due to my weight)
Yuppers...I think I love to eat is what it all boils down too
Life Law #1: You Either Get It, or You Don't
Start getting real.
Why do you want to lose weight? Write it down. I want to look and feel better. I want energy. I don't want to be the "fat mom". I want to be around to see my grandchildren. Above all I want to feel good about myself!
What are you doing--or not doing--to lose weight? I have stopped eating all day long. I have started eating only one meal a day plau a snack . I have not been drinking enough water or exercising. I am thinking of the future.
Pinpoint ten patterns of living that you have accepted without question. example: putting off your exercise or snacking when you're not hungry.
1. Not drinking water (addicted to Diet Coke)
2. Keep putting off excerise
3. Eating junk food before bed
4. Snacking while watching TV
5. Snacking when not hungry
6. Overeating
7. Eating out of just plain boredom
8. Finishing what my kids didn't eat
9. Just being plain lazy
10. Preferring convience foods, to actually doing it myself
That was alot harder then I expected. Whew, glad that's over with. To actually have to think about it and then put it in black & white....what an eye opener.
