Default How did I not go down?!?!?

So I didn't lose any weight this week - actually gained - so I am little dissapointed, I'm not sure what went wrong

But this morning when I weighed in I was soooo close to losing it - it's hard not to see a drop when you have tried so hard.

So now I am sitting at 197lbs up 2 from last week

After thinking very badly of myself all morning, I decided to visit 3FC. After reading some very encourging success stories (Botzz -200lbs and looking and feeling fantastic!) my spirits have lifted.

I want to be able to look back in a few months or however long it takes to lose these 52lbs and be able to say I did it and I feel fantastic!

So ... I just wanted to say thank you to everyone on 3FC for your support and inspiration! I know with your help I can reach my goal!

Hi there!
Don't panic! BREATHE!!!
This has happened to me SO many times, and this is what I do:
1. Reasses what and how much you are eating. Are you tracking your intake? You really need to be consistent with respect to intake so that you give yourself the BEST chance of losing the weight. You can do this through a structured program like WW or through calorie counting, like TONS of the successful maintainers do (use Fitday or The Daily Plate or Sparkpeople). But this is the first step.
2. Do you chart or graph your weight? I use a free online program called "Fridgegraph". This lets me see how I do week to week, and I found that I have a weight loss cycle. I lose ALOT in week 1, a bit in weeks 2 and 3, nothing or am up in week 4, and then I repeat the cycle. So because I know this, I don't freak out (so much) when the scale doesn't budge. Because OVERALL, I am losing.
3. We are now in summer (pretty much!)! Are you drinking enough water? Has your salt intake been higher than usual this week? Have you upped your exercise? All of these will account for bumps up in weight. They are temporary, usually due to water retention, and will resolve themselves with time.

Let me put it this way: last week, I lost 3 lbs! Amazing for me!!! This week, I am UP 0.5 lbs! Eeek! I did everything right! So what happened?
I reassessed my diet. I went out for dinner twice (still within my eating plan, but I can't control the salt nor oil content directly). I assessed my lifestyle. I realized that I have doubled my exercise (I am doing a hot yoga challenge, with 30 classes in 30 days). I checked where I am on my weight loss cycle, and am on week 2. So, I don't lose alot in week 2 anyways. Result? I have done everything right, but my weight is UP, and I'm pretty sure that this is temporary.
I am still a bit irked, but not completely upset, which I WOULD have been in previous weight loss attempts.

Anyways, you're bored now, I'm sure! In short, hang in there, assess your diet, exercise, and lifestyle. Relax, and stick with it. You WILL see results -- they just won't be linear nor completely predictable nor super, super fast...

Thanks for the support Kiramira - I think I will go back and assess what I actually did eat this week. But I think now that you mentioned it above that it may be a cycle thing - I always find that coming up to "that time of the month" for me I always seem to have trouble losing or even maintaining, this actually may be the reason.

You are SO on the right path. And if you just get super stubborn and stick with it and don't give up and do what you KNOW you need to do, you'll get there. I never thought I would be 176 (.5! Eeek!) when I was at 244lbs. It was one of those weights that I USED to be and couldn't imagine actually BEING there. But here I am. It has taken me forEVER, but here I am. And I want to lose more. So I just plug away!! It'll happen, but just not tomorrow...

Slow but stubborn stays off!

I had the same thing happen last week. Being good about what I ate, increased my exercise, and weight up 2 lbs. NO idea why - until surprise, that TOM - 1 week early! Really irritated me, cause the backwards trend really got me down so I skipped exercise for two days, and got really careless on my food. But anyway - back on track, the 2 lbs are gone, and I have this feeling I'm going to see another one gone over the next couple days.

Don't let it throw you . . Keep doing what works!

I agree with the others. Sometimes you can do everything right and just not lose weight for a week. There's a good chance if you keep up the good habits, you will lose more next week. These are the times when you see how committed and strong you are as it's hard to keep up the good choices when you aren't directly seeing results. Remember it's a life change. It took time to gain the weight and it will take time to lose it. I've been losing very slow this year, pretty much a pound a week, and for a while I kept thinking that at this pace I would never see the results I was looking for but with patience I am finally getting closer than I have ever been to reaching my goal. Don't let one week with no change in the scale undo all your hard work so far.
