Hello everyone! I'm brand-new here. I have been wanting/needing to lose weight. I would love to be around 140-150 lbs eventually, but I have a long way to go. I currently weight about 315 pounds. I'm 20 years old and my dad will not buy healthy foods, so I'm struggling quite a bit... I also need suggestions as to exercise and possibly a buddy who would be interested in working with me to help me lose this weight. Ultimately I would like to be healthy, even if that means being a little heavier than my goal weight.
I'm new here as well and so far I've loved the support and welcoming I've received!!
There are some different support groups you could also look at "introducing" yourself to. They have a group for those that want to lose over 100 pounds (I'm one of em!). They also have some broken up by age groups. This way you can get support, ideas and feedback from folks that might be in your same situation, or have been!!
What kind of foods does your dad buy? Does he let you help out with the shopping at all (does he understand this is something you're doing for your health and your self image?).
What kind of exercise to you have available to you? Any equipment at home, or DVDs/Videos you could use? Any gyms nearby? I haven't joined a gym yet, but I do have an elliptical machine I'm hoping to start tearing up!
Anyhow....WELCOMEagain!! Hope to hear more from you!!
Maybe, you need to sit down with your dad and explain your problem. Have you been to see a Doctor, armed with test results you might be able to scare your dad into helping you. As fatties, we risk getting a lot of nasty illnesses - Diabetes (and its nasty friends - blindness, amputations, kidney problems), Heart Disease, Cancer. Do you have any family history of these things. Also, as a fatty, you may find it harder to have a family. Explain to him that you HAVE to do this as staying this size will have an impact on your life and your health. Costly medications that could have been avoided.
You say you're 20, do you have an income of your own? Maybe share costs on groceries then you will have control of some of the groceries which are bought.
Exercise - I walk and swim mostly. I try to have at least 25-30 min walking most mornings and sometimes in the afternoon as well.
If you want a buddy, I'm here for it. I want to lose 10-12 kg by 18 August - that's my anniversary. If I can't get there, then I want to be as close as possible - so the target is 130kg by 18 Aug.
Hey, I'm right at your age (just turned 20), and I'm actually a college student but at home right with my family too right now because it's summer vacation. I'd love to be your buddy, if you want! =)
WelcomeWelcome! One thing I have found helpful is posting a "positive" about my life everyday, and I also enjoy reading the "positives" of others. It gives me ideas about how to structure my own life and makes me feel I am among friends.
I know where your coming from with family and food. I live for the gatherings and southern food, but I have to be careful. I ended up having to buy my own food (mostly chicken, rice, eggs, oats, protein powder, fruit, and lettuce) I keep food simple and weight train at the school gym 3 times a week. If you don't have access to a cheap gym there are a lot of good exercises you can do with resistance bands and body weight. Even walking helps, although HIIT cardio keeps your metabolism up longer.
Make the healthiest choices you can. Fried chicken pull off the skin and go for the breast meat. Get a second helping of veggies rather than the pasta. Try going shopping with your dad next time and request healthy alternatives.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey, you can make it. It will be hard, but we are all here to help!
