New from PA!

  • Hi, I'm Jessie. I'm 18 and currently a college freshman.
I've always had problems losing weight.
I eat healthily 90% of the time. I exercise as much as I can.
I just moved into a new town home with my boyfriend and we have steps now,
I use those most of the time to exercise until they get the gym open here.

    Got any tips?
    Helpful ideas?

I need to lose 50lbs to get to the healthy weight for my height and age.
I need help and support please.

    Thanks!
  • Welcome! I'm originally from PA! You might want to start by keeping a food log, and be totally honest on it. Then you'll be able to see exactly what you're taking in. You might be surprised! Also, do you have a doctor? He/she might be able to help you decide what your best plan might be. Good luck!!
  • Hi Jessie, welcome! There will be lots of people here willing to help you, and there's so much great information here, so read lots and post lots! Good luck!
  • As Jacqui D said there is plenty of information and advice on these forums. Welcome aboard!
  • Welcome, Jessie!

I don't know how much you go up and down your stairs, that can be great exercise, but don't forget taking a nice walk (maybe w/ your boyfriend) is good exercise too! I started out walking around my neighborhood.
  • Welcome Jessie! Join the fun - there is so much information here and so many amazing folks ready to help, offer support, advice and a shoulder to lean on those days you need it so you can keep the motivation up!

I'm with Iris on walking. My great great grandmother was still walking around a 500 acre farm every morning into her 90's - I think it's the best thing you can do for your health and your soul, and it's a lifetime habit that can stick! And it's SO CHEAP! I have a dog - she makes me get up and
walk every morning even when I feel like being lazy.

Winning also makes an excellent point about a food log - I like the free online calorie counters. There's several really good ones. But I've learned so much about nutrition and exactly what calories foods have in them since I've been doing that. I think the reality check has helped so much.

My best advice? Whatever diet plan you choose - make it something you can live with when you go on maintenance. I like whole foods and pretty much stick to a mediterranean diet - but just get excited about eating healthy! Healthy is sexy :-)

I hope your BF is supportive? That's the best thing in the world :-)

Looking forward to more posts - and YOUR SUCCESS!
