Consumer Alert from Skinny Cow: Fudge Bar and Sundae Cup Update
A few weeks ago, some of you began questioning the calories in our new Fudge Bars and Sundae Cups. At the time, we were
assured, by our independent laboratory, that the information was correct. However, knowing how critical the accuracy of calorie
information is to you, we asked the laboratory to reanalyze our products. We then took those results and had them verified by
two additional independent laboratories.
We received the final verified results on our Fudge Bars this week and wanted to share the information with you immediately.
Fudge Bar - 90 calories per bar, and still 0 grams of fat.
As a result of this new information, we are correcting our Fudge Bar packages. (We began work on the new package while the
results were being verified by the third lab in order to get the correct information as soon as possible.) Now, with the results
confirmed by three independent laboratories, we will begin distributing Fudge Bars in updated packages in New York, Chicago,
Texas, and Northern California. Fudge bars will not be immediately available in other markets, but we hope to expand distribution as soon as possible.
Regarding our Sundae Cups, manufacturing inconsistencies in fill weights and the impact this has on calorie counts has lead us to
make the difficult decision to stop production of this product temporarily and move Sundae Cups production to a new facility.
We are making this move to ensure product quality and consistency. We hope to have Sundae Cups back on the market in the Fall of 2002.
We cannot tell you how sorry we are for the calorie inaccuracy of our Fudge Bars and the manufacturing issues you may have
experienced with our Sundae Cups. We know you rely on the quality of our products. We take that responsibility very seriously. To
prevent this type of inaccuracy from happening again, we have instituted a "triple check" product analysis process thatrequires independent verification on all weight, nutrition and calorie information.
