Default I have to be a bridesmaid...

Hello my dear 3FC friends!

I've been lurking a little too long and felt I needed to come out of hiding.

I just haven't felt motivated lately. On Mondays - yes, all the motivation I can stand! But by Friday - meh.

My little sister is getting married in October and I would like to lose those 50 pounds I've been wanting to lose. Of course, I will be a bridesmaid, so there's some motivation to look good in the dress (this dress!).

Anyone else have bridesmaid experiences?

I know they say you're not supposed to lose weight after you order the dress but I am already going to have to have it altered so I figure I am not going to use that as an excuse.

Hi there. Glad you've popped in.

Congratulations on your sister's upcoming wedding. That's a beautiful dress and I'm sure you will looking stunning in it, no matter what your size.

I've got a question for you?

What is it that motivates you so much on Monday and why does it no longer motivate you come Friday?

Waiting for your answer, more for yourself then anything, before I even get into the "don't rely on motivation speech" - make a COMMITMENT, it's MUCH more lasting then the motivation. All right, that WAS sounding a little - speech-y.

But seriously, what changes for you between Monday and Friday?

I have never been a bridesmaid, heck I've only been to ONE wedding my entire life! I just wanted to add, that dress is freaking BEAUTIFUL!!!! If I ever am a bridesmaid, I want a dress just like that one!

Awww thanks. I got to pick it out. The ruching hides loads of stomach flaws and it's a chiffon over satin (another flaw hider). I hate being a bridesmaid. But it's my sister so how can I say no?

Robin - That is a good question. I will ponder it.

I had to be a bridesmaid at 35 weeks pregnant. I was a VERY large pregnant person too. And the ceremony was on the beach so I had to walk up the aisle in the sand. I did have to find a maternity dress though so I didn't have to worry about fitting into a dress, but I did swell like an elephant.

That's a beautiful dress! I work at David's Bridal and I see all sorts of brides and bridesmaids in all sizes, and I've noticed that attitude is key. If you're happy and excited, you'll look good. And I like that it's floor length.

My best advice is to get the dress now, and then lose weight, because you never know what will happen before the wedding (like the dress might get discontinued, you might have to order it and at DB it takes 6 weeks!), and you can always have it altered. It's a gorgeous dress. You've lost almost 60 lbs already, that's amazing!

You have six months, and I wouldn't have a set amount of weight to lose. Just focus on losing more, and if you don't lose 50 lbs by October, no sweat. You'll still look amazing.

Jessica, it's good to see you back! Congrats to your sister on her upcoming marriage. I really love that dress!

I have been a bridesmaid twice and it was a positive experience both times. I hope it will be for you as well.

A few months ago before I even started my journey I bought my maid of honour dress for my sister's summer wedding. I bought it in my size now as if I would never lose another pound until I had to wear it.

I figured, if I lose I can get it altered or it will look a little loose (mine's less form fitting than yours) and I thought I would just be OK with that because I would know it's loose because I lost weight.

Hey Jessica - my big secret - I treat the weekends like regular days. Fridays are just as planned as a Tuesday, regular food, nothing special - works like a charm (for me).

The dress is hot!

Jessica, seriously woman...you ALWAYS look gorgeous to me!
You will be smokin' even if you don't lose another pound, although you can kick this thing's butt if you decide to

LOVE the dress!

I was a bridesmaid in my best friends' wedding this past September...I was a little less than I am now, but not by too much. I agree, it was difficult, but once I got the whole look together, I felt pretty gorgeous It was tea length and had a little fringe of the black tulle around the bottom too..so cute.
I'm going to try and post a pic...wish me luck!

LOVE you GJ! You'll be amazing as always!
xoxo

That dress is absolutely beautiful.I was a bridesmaid in my brothers wedding.Actually I stood up with my brother. Is that a groomsmaid?Anyway I also had a long black dress and after the wedding had it altered to a knee lenght dress so that I could wear it again.I cant imagine anybody not looking great in such a gorgeous dress.Just enjoy the day, no matter what your weight is then.I look back at pictures and see how misreable I looked because I was uncomfortable with my weight.Kinda sad actually.I should have been focused on the fun day.

That dress is beautiful!!! You have great taste in clothing. You'll look great at any weight. I think adding the pressure of losing a certain amount by a certain day wouldn't work the best for me but everybody is different.

I am getting married in 7 weeks and am really dreding the whole dress thing. My saving grace is I am getting married in a RED dress. Something I thought you might appreciate being a Goddess and all . Besides, goddesses are beautiful in anything at any weight. Right?

Gorgeous dress!

I don't think losing weight after ordering it is a big deal, as long as there's enough time budgeted for alterations. But lots of time between now and October to fit in alterations. Better to take it in a bit than ordering smaller in the anticipation of losing weight and then not losing as much as expected.

I really don't have much to add..other than to agree it is an absolutely gorgeous dress! You will look faboulous, no matter what. Order it now and get it altered later. You do not want the added stress of trying to fit into "that size"...it might seem like motivation, but when it comes right down to it...not so much! I have been in 10 (yes 10...not counting my own) weddinds....I have all the frilly dresses and dyed shoes to match to prove it! lOl! And honestly, it is about being confident.

Heh heh... both of the times I was supposed to be in a wedding, the happy couple ended up eloping to Las Vegas. Sweet escape for them and me! I have this thing that I don't really want to be in a wedding until it's my own. I don't know why. I do love that dress, especially since you mention the rouching... I'm sure you will look absolutely gorgeous in it at any weight.
