Question Happy to be pregnant, but...

I'm happy to be pregnant, I'm 18 weeks along and just starting to show. I'm 35, and already have a 12 yr old girl. This is a planned pregnancy, and everything is going well, knock on wood. As good as I feel about it, I have to put a lot of my life on hold for more than a year, because the baby is due in Sept, and I won't be able to get back to jogging until NEXT spring. And I'm not going to fit into my summer clothes at all this year. Then there will be more weight loss to deal with. I have ADD and can't take my meds, so I'm having a hard time staying focused on things like housework and projects like knitting. What can I do to get into the groove?

When I was pregnant I stopped journaling. Had no desire to crochet. Basically lost all drive to do any of the things that interested me before. (I've NEVER had the desire to to housework, so that didn't affect me at all ). I think, to some degree, pregnancy is designed to allow you to lose focus on everything but growing a healthy baby and I wouldn't stress about that.

As far as the jogging, nope, you shouldn't do it while you're pregnant if it's high intensity or stressful to your body BUT walking wouldn't cause that same stress on your joints/impact to the baby. Substitute walking for jogging so you can stick to your routine and stay focused on your exercise. You could also use an elliptical if walking is boring for you.

I started my pregnancy so heavy that you couldn't tell I was pregnant until I was 26-27 weeks. I wore the same clothes throughout my pregnancy until about two weeks before I delivered.

Hi Kofarq & Congrats!

I'm only 15 wks and this is my first so I don't know if I am much help but I can tell you that my focus is completely shot. I am normally very focused and can accomplish a number of tasks in a day and now I'm lucky if I remember what I went to the other room for! lol I think eating healthy, drinking water, and getting light exercise helps a little.

Good luck and just keep thinking about the end result, a beautiful healthy baby.

Kori- I have a two year old and two-month-old and have ADHD. I haven't been medicated in about three years-- I nursed my first for a year and got pregnant again shortly thereafter. Just wanted to let you know I feel your pain. In about ten months, I'll be calling up the doctor for some good ole Concerta.

Talk to your Dr, but some say that if you were running before you got pg you can run while pg. I have a cousin who ran well into her 6th month. They definitely don't want you starting a new exercise regimen, but you may ask about continuing running. There's even a product out there called a "belly bra" for runners.

Thanks, Everybody! I'll use your ideas, and can relax a little and enjoy my pregnancy more. I've just been afraid I won't get my hard-worked-for figure back!

I ran a half-marathon in my first trimester (I got pregnant while training) with my sister who is a physician. Double check with your doctor, but I'm here to say that yes, if you ran before you got pregnant, you don't have to stop unless there are other physical reasons why you have to.
