Default Newbie Looking For WW at Home Info...

Hi all!! Just wanted to say a quick hello....I am a 49 yo who did WW flex point plan many years ago after having my kids. I am now on disability with DDD and osteoarthritis....my ability to exercise is deeply compromised due to my pain issues. I use to be able to walk but am not able to do much of that anymore and therefore have put on more weight than I would have like to.

I made it to goal weight of 147 about 15 years ago and became a lifetime member but am now up to 230 or more (haven't weighed myself in a year or so).

I am looking into the WW at home and purchasing the home kit. And could use your help in doing that.

I would like to know if the at home program works and what specific items will be most useful. I am looking to acquire them from ebay and they vary in price as well as what items are part of the kit.

Also...how different is the Momentum program from the points?? From the little bit I read it sounds a little confusing and perhaps would benefit more from the points. I guess I am looking for some input from somebody who is familiar with both plans.

Will I be able to succeed coming here rather than going to meetings or joining up with the online WW?? I find it difficult to get out and it all depends on how much pain I am on any given day so I think that doing the at home program will work out best for me.

I just saw myself in a recent video and I was mortified at how much weight I put on...I am sure many here can relate.

That really motivated me and I am hoping that I can get some of this weight off so that I can then get back to walking without so much pain. The hard part is going to be getting the weight off without exercising and wonder if it will even be possible.

We just got a hot tub and I am hoping that I can even do something in there where it won't be as painful for me.

I would so appreciate any suggestions you can give me to get me started. I don't have a digital scale and will probably have to invest in one...any suggestions of one that won't be a big expense??

Trying to keep the cost down with the tough economic times and with having one in college and another collegebound this September.

Thanks ahead for taking the time to help me out until I find my way better around here.

I found all the items from the deluxe kit useful.

Food Companion
Dining Out Companion
WW Points Calculator
WW Points slider……….I don’t use this often, but keep it in my desk at work
3 month journal (or my bible as I like to call it)

I got a year’s subscription to the WW mag w/ my kit, but I haven’t really read those much. I could do w/out them.

Also haven’t used the exercise DVD, but I need to!

Momentum isn’t that different from the Flex plan. I really like the changes they have made b/c I feel like they focus more on nutrition. It’s kind of a combination of the Flex & Core plans. Every food is still assigned a points value & some foods are assigned “set” points values so it allows for a little more flexibility. I like it b/c I hate weighing & measuring & sometimes I just want to eat something w/out portioning it out.

I have had more success this time around than ever on WW & all I did was buy the at home kit. I didn’t join WW online & I don’t go to meetings. I get all the support I need here & it’s nice to not have any additional expense. Much easier for me to hop online when I’m feeling like I need a boost than drive across town to a meeting.

Are you talking about a digital scale to weigh yourself on or one to measure your food? Either way, they are both tools you will need. I got my food scale at Wal Mart for under $20, I think our weight scale was about the same price.

I hope I answered all your questions Ivory! We have a great little online community here & would love to have you join us

Hey Chefsgirl....thanks so much for the info!! I so appreciate it!!

As far as scales...I was thinking more of the one I weigh myself on since I only have the one that gives your weight in eighth of a pound increments and isn't digital. I see that people here measure in .3lbs etc and I wouldn't be able to do that with the one I have....besides it is sometimes difficult for me to read with these 49 year old eyes!!

I look forward to joining....I see alot of great bargains for the kits on ebay but I don't know if they come with the instructions that I see on the WW website. They aren't pictured....some mention them but if I don't get the instructions on how to do the plan I will be lost.

I see some for the flex core plan which is from 2008....I guess momentum came out in 2009 and is a newer plan??!! I could get a better bargain with the core points plan, however, I would hate to start it and find out that the momentum was better. So that is where I am at.

I look forward to joining this group....looks like it'll be a great source of support. Thanks again for your info and I look forward to seeing more of you as I try to find my way around here.

*****If possible, can any of you please tell me what WW plan most of you use here so it makes it easier for me to choose the plan I will use. I think the last plan I had was Points so many years ago but I want to make sure that I am on the same page as everyone else here, if you know what I mean*************

Oh, I forgot my deluxe kit came w/ a plan info book........it's an instructional book on how to do the progam.

I think Momentum is better than Flex/Core.

Ivory I got my books and calculator on ebay too I really like the food companion and rarely use the dinning out one. I do have the three month journal but for me I made a journal (actually front and back of a paper) that runs for a week it seems to help me

I do the flex points only just because I have not investigated the momentum plan but I am sure you will find the right niche for you

I just located my original materials from over 20 years ago....it was the 1 2 3 Success Program and they used the points system.

What do you think....can I use this system...I have the first 5 weeks booklets as well as the points finder slider. I was thinking that I can order the new dining out book and newer food companion booklet as well as the diaries to help me along but didn't know if the newer programs would be more beneficial to me.

If anybody still uses the 1 2 3 Sucess/Points Program or is familiar with it and how it compares to the FlexPoints I would really appreciate your input.

I thank everybody for their responses....I want to get started...my PC was down for the past week or so and I apologize for not thanking everybody before this.

Ivory-
I bought the deluxe at home kit on ebay but I mostly use the 3 m,onth journal and the 2 food guides. You can probably buy those on items seperately for less money. There is a ton of WW info online. Just google it.
I bought a digital scale at Wal-Mart for 19.99. It is awesome!!!
Good luck!!!!
BTW- I am following Momentum and I love it!!!

Well my materials arrived today and I am going to read through the first week booklet to familiarize myself with the program.....I am really going to need some motivation because this isn't going to be an easy transition. My brother is in Hospice care and his health is declining....I think that I use food as my stress reliever and need to make some healthier choices to serve in that capacity.

I hope to get enough motivation to make whatever changes I can.....my youngest daughter graduates this June and I turn 50 in July and it sure would be nice to lose some weight (I know that it'll take some time to get it off but I am wanting to do it and would really like to see it start working)'

I think that I am going to need to make a trip to the food store....any suggestions on what will make it easy the first week of adjustment as filling foods that will help me make an easy transition??? I would appreciate anything you can suggest to make this easy.....I am hoping to stay with it and look forward to the support I will get here.

Also...hubby is going to Walmart tomorrow and somebody mentioned a good scale for around $20. I would appreciate it if you could tell me which brand works out well for weekly weigh ins.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcomes....I look forward to the support.
