Default New Girl :P

I'm so sick of being fat.
In august 2008, I was on a trip to Vegas with my family. I was looking at myself in the mirror, totally disgusted. So I tried to lose weight. For 3 months I pretty much ate nothing but chicken, rice, slim fast, fruit and water. Lost 30 lbs. Then I decided to reward myself. Long story short, I'm back up 15 pounds.

I'm 16 and 200 lbs. People tell me I'm "too young" to diet. So, what...? You want me to do nothing untill I'm "old enough" to diet? Can you imagine how much worse I'll have gotten? I don't want to diet. I want to eat healthy. But yeah, I'm young. I don't know HOW to eat healthy, my family is unwilling to give up their fast food 3 times a day, sedentary lifestyle and so I'm stuck. I feel thinner than I am, so every time I look at myself I just get so discouraged along with the frequent remarks about my age. I'm an independant study student, so I don't really have anything to make me get up and exercise. I ask my parents every night to go on a walk with me and get "I don't feel like it." "I'm too tired." "We'll go tomorrow." But we don't. I'd go on my own but our neighborhood isn't a safe place for a teenage girl to be walking alone =/

A few nights ago I ordered myself a few Jillian Michaels's DVD's after seeing the review about them giving you a good kick in the pants. I need that as far as exercising goes. But I'm still clueless as to how I'm supposed to be eating.

I'm so lost and confused and frustrated, but I really want to do this. I want to feel pretty and confident. I've NEVER felt that way. Ever.

Good for you for wanting to improve yourself! Don't let the your too young to diet comments sway you! Its not a diet to begin with, its a lifestyle change. My mother and grandmother tried to tell me I was anorexic when I got down to 120 lbs when I was in my twenties. At 5'3", that is normal weight. Sometimes the people who sabotage our efforts the most are the ones we love.

You mentioned you dieted before by eating chicken, rice, etc. Maybe if you do that again with healthy foods. Eliminate junk from your diet. Exercise at home if you have to. Maybe try jogging in place. Do you have any friends who could work out with you?

You can do this!

Hi and welcome to 3FC.

You are never too young to be healthy. No matter what your family is up to, you can be more active and eat less. Sounds simple? But it's not really.

Make sure you stick around 3FC. Read lots for a pick-me-up and make sure you post so that we can get to know you better.

Welcome to 3FC! Surf around and settle in! We have subforums based on age, eating plan, exercise & more! I'm glad you're here!

To eat healthy, it is important to have a variety of foods. Consider the following general guidelines:

lean proteins: chicken, tuna, eggs, turkey, lean ham, lean beef, also beans and peanut butter have some protein, cottage cheese, yogurt

healthy fats: things like avocado, nuts, olive oil. We need some fat everyday.

fruits & veggies...plenty! They'll fill you up, give you vitamins & fiber that you need to stay healthy, and they are yummy!

healthy carbs: things like beans, whole grain bread, potatoes (white & sweet!), rice, grains.....

Avoid fried food as much as possible.

I know some parents are a pain in the rear, but try to sit down with them and have a conversation about healthy eating. Fast food on a regular basis ain't healthy for anyone! If you are truly stuck with fast food, go for salads & grilled chicken (be careful with dressing, croutons, cheese, bacon) or a small hamburger with apple slices (fries = bad news).

Thanks everyone. I'm deffinately going to try and stick be around here as much as I can. I've already gone through some people's Goal photos for inspiration, it helps a bunch. I'm going to try and see what I can do about my eating, I can probably convince my mother(who's most supportive) to take me to the store for fruits and veggies and other things I'll need.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I am twenty years old and I have been uncomfortable with my weight since fourth grade. Congratulations for making the desicion to change your life and be healthier. You sound like you're on a good track now, but be sure to watch out if you're eating white rice, it's full of carbohydrates. Carbs are not bad but too much can slow your weight loss so try switching to brown rice if you're eating white or eliminating it.

Good luck. Feel free to PM me anytime you need someone to talk to.
