Question Walking shoes - any suggestions?

I need a new pair of shoes for walking. I have never bought a pair so I really don't know what Im looking for, I will be doing almost all of my walking on cement around the neighborhood, I guess that matters. I can only go up to about $60 but I don't want to base my purchase on just the cost. Does anybody have any suggestions for decent, inexpensive, walking shoes?

Hi jademarlene,
I recommend New Balance also. I have been wearing them for years. I have 2 heal spurs on each foot and I wouldn't wear anything else. The last 2 pairs I bought were NB 608 and they were about 40 bucks.

Yeah, I think that's what I have 608..I have a few pair. If you do anything, spend good money on good shoes, they are important when working out.

I highly recommend New Balance! Best rating shoes on the market.

I personally love the ones with the Zip technology. It has shock impact absorbers which help cushion your feet. Very comfortable shoes.

I suggest that you go to a running/walking shoe store and try a bunch on and see which one works best for you. Those specialty stores also have pros that will look at you walk and make recommendations... Hope this helps, keep us posted on what type you get...

Listen to Ilene. New Balance is a fine brand but it might not be the best brand for you. The only way to know that is to go see an expert and try on a few. I've been in Asics for years. Actually tried on a pair of New Balance yesterday for grins. Nope--not for me! The Nikes were ok, but I bought Asics---again....my 6th pair in a row.

Sneakers would be best and Cross Trainers are best for walking, running and working out. If you go to a modell's or foot locker etc. and ask them which are the cross trainers they will show you, you can also ask for anythign else that's good for walking.
Basically Cross Trainers sort of go up in the front (if you look at the sneaker, paying attention to the sole, the front end goes up off the ground when the sneaker is just sitting there on the shelf, many sneakers for like just wearing to school or work are totally level/flat to the floor).

Once you learn the difference in the sneakers you can go to an Outlet store like JC Penney Outlet or Marshall's or even maybe a Kohl's and get a decent pair for a better price than a sneaker store.

Gook Luck!!
