Default Help! To fat to move

Our family just got a membership to the YMCA. The problem is I am currently sitting on the side of the pool for the fourth day in a row going online with my iPod while my husband and two older kids swim in the pool. When I met my husband I lived at the gym and was in great shape now four kids later I weigh 212 pounds and feel way to fat to jump in or go to the gym section and work out. At home we have a bowflex, stairionary bike, treadmill, an eliptical machine, and I have a brand new mountain bike. We also have lots of exercise videos. At home I could never use our equipment because I always had to watch our two babies. Now I have two free hours for all four kids if I want it and all I do is sit here! Any suggestions on how to overcome this? I feel to fat to swim or workout in front of anyone. HELP!

Just do it...

No one is staring at you and in fact people are generally proud of those getting out there and doing it.

No one is looking at you, honest.

Just jump in girlfriend! You'll probably be surprised at how much you can do once you try. If you feel like you don't have enough energy to do it, I would look at your diet. Try to stick with fruits/ veggies and lean protein. When I used to eat junk all day (even if it was in my calorie range) I would always be tired. I weigh a lot more than you do, and I know that if I can do it you can do it!

your not to fat to do it and honestly no one is watching you. the pool is the safest place to start if you feel self conscious you can hide under the water and its great resistance so just walking in the pool is a great workout

Believe me no one will care... I went to both the gym and pool at way over 212 lbs. Your kids will love having you in the water to play with them.

Get moving girl! You CAN do this! And who cares who might be watching. Your life is about YOU. YOUR family. YOUR children. YOU want to be healthy for YOU and YOUR family. Why on earth would you jeopardize your health and happiness because of what someone you don't even know MIGHT think?

I started exercising at 215 lbs and it was a serious help on my journey!

I work at a ymca and am there a lot. I think at least 1/3 people there are plus size. At least at ours, you certainly wouldn't be out of place.

You can't give yourself any more reasons to not do it. Once you make the gym a familiar place (by going often) it will feel like old hat to you. Just do it.

I started working out at 305lbs!!! Believe me, if I can do it at that weight, you can do it at almost 100lbs less!! You are worth it, and your family is worth it. They would love for you to join them. Like everyone else said, I dont think anyone will be looking at you. You should enjoy life jump in.

it's been said by everyone else- just do it and it'll get easier. Soon you'll be under 200 and need a new swimsuit

How about, at first, not going with your husband and kids to the gym and start using all that equipment that you have at home when the rest of the family is out? Then you don't have to worry about anybody watching you. I am sure it will encourage you to join them and exercise together with DH and kids, but why not start on your own when you have the time and the tools as well?
Good luck - YOU CAN DO IT!

It sounds like you have quite a bit of resources at home. Why aren't you using them?

You are already in your suit so jump in! Nobody really cares how you look - they are too worried about how they look!

Wow! Thanks so much for all of the encouraging posts! That is just what I needed! Well, DH and I took the two little girls (4 & 2)to the pool today while the two older ones (10 & 9) were at school. I did not wear a swimsuite but I did get in the water and we had a blast! I wore a t-shirt and shorts. At least that's a start, right? We played with the girls for an hour and a half! Now if I can just get myself to the gym! I'm going to work on that next!

I'm glad you got the courage to plunge in It sounds like you have a lot available to you at home too...take advantage of that if you are too nervous to do it at the Y!
