Default Would a jump roap be like running??

I had asked about what to do since I am going away for a while...and cant do most of my normal exercises...and a jump rope was mentioned well I was wondering do you all think that I could use a jump rope and do the C25k with that instead of running around...just walking in place when its walking time and jumping fast when its running time? Or is jumping nothing like running? Just a thought?

IMHO, jumping rope is very hard work! I say it is a lot like running....

I have a suggestion for you too. When we went on a cross country trip with my parents, my MOM bought us each a pedometer. Our goal was to rack up 10000 steps a day. we walked circles around the car before we got in it, took the long way through the parking lot. paced while we waited for our meals, or a bathroom stall. If the car stopped, we were out of our seat getting steps. It was the only time I ever lost 2 pounds on vacation. If nothing else, it will help you determine the distance daily. Good luck!

Well, what are your goals? Are your goals increased cardiovascular endurance or are your goals to run?

Jump rope will increase your cardiovascular endurance but it won't give you the ability to run. Cardiovascular endurance is required for running but in order to run, you need to run. Although I did read kettlebells are an exception in that they do improve running ability without running, which is very strange.

I can run an hour without stopping, maybe further. I can tell you I would have a hard time jumping rope for a straight five minutes. Jumping rope is awesome cardio but it is difficult! I think jump roping is a good idea for your trip but I don't think it can replace the C25K program. You need walking and running for that I think. As long as you are careful on calories, you should be fine for the trip. How long will you be gone?

Hmm... I'm not sure if this information is useful but in my secondary school, the teachers made us overweight kids choose between running 400m or jumping rope 400 times.

Those are all great Ideas!! (I really need a new pedometer) I will be gone two weeks then be home two weeks, then be gone two weeks, then home two weeks, then gone a month...so it makes it difficult...lol I just am so worried I want to lose weight so bad..I am kind of sad that the jumping rope thing wont work...but I do understand why now...
