Default Fashion's Invisible Woman (L.A. Times re: Plus Size Fashion)

http://www.latimes.com/features/life...,2345629.story

It's true that if the average American woman is size 14 (RAISING HAND HERE!) why do most clothing manufacturers want to pretend we don't exist?

It is another one of those paradoxes. I totally agree with the article though. The world wants to believe that we don't exist, but WE'RE HERE!!!! I scrounge every place I can to find maybe one piece I can fit over my body. Its so FRUSTRATING!

That was a really good article. It's so disappointing that I have to go to Walmart for very plain and ill-fitted poorly made clothes- or go to places like CJ Banks where everything is covered in sequins, animals, and other hideous crap. I don't think it's so bad to want to look okay - but apparently almost nobody is willing to give us a shot.
lame.

That's the thing that kills me, the CORNY APPLIQUES on the plus size clothes...ugh!

Really the only place I found DECENT plus size clothes was Saks Fifth Avenue, but I can't afford them. Where are the mid-price knock-offs than thin ladies have access to? It's hard to find something between $500 and $15.99. I would rather have a few decent basic pieces than a whole closet full of crap -- unfortunately all my nice clothes are two sizes smaller than my current size!

i don't even have anything nice really. i'm just happy to find something that isn't hideous- as a result i'm sort of a plain t-shirt and jeans kinda girl. and i don't want to be that girl. i'd love to have some sort of personal style but i haven't found it yet.
i stopped shopping at lane bryant because i felt like their clothes always fell apart really fast- plus i felt it was irresponsible of them to sell halter tops. catherines is dreadful- i'm not 7 feet tall, i'm not on my way to church, and i'm not 85 years old. ugh.

i think i have better luck just finding clothes in regular stores that have plus sizes, like JC Penny. I'm kinda bummed because Gottshalks have some pretty good plus sized clothes, but I won't shop there after the sales girl guided my friend over to the plus sized dept when she was browsing in the lingerie section while waiting for me. My friend isn't small but she's not plus sized AND they don't even have any plus sized lingerie over there. ugh- so insulted i can't give them my money. i thought my poor friend was going to cry.

I'm not 20 something, but I've always liked fashion and prided myself on looking good while 200+ lbs. For business attire, I liked Kohls and Coldwater Creek, TJ Maxx, and Sears. For some trendier pieces I learned to sew - because almost nothing I found that I liked ever fit me well.
