Default Now lost 8 Stone

Today I reached a new milestone in my weightloss journey - I've now lost 8 stone (acually 8st 1lb). I've only another half stone to get to the target I originally set in 2007 which is the point at which I am no longer obese.

I can't wait until I lose enough to get out of the obese category!

What was your main plan?!

Basically my own plan, based on eating low fat and controlling portions. I've done the yo-yo thing several times and lost the same 40-50lbs over and over again. I think I've learned from this though as this time I decided that my rule would be that recognising that I need to find a plan I can sustain for life, I decided rule number one would be that I would only eat things I like. Fortunately for me I do like a good range of healthy food. I've found the best way for me is to eat light for breakfast and lunch, two snacks a day and then I eat a good meal plus often low fat 'dessert' in the evening (about half my calories I eat in the evening). I still eat bread, rice, pasta, potatoes I don't see these as bad but as part of a balanced diet. I don't eat biscuits and cakes hardly and I am now accustomed to saying 'no' to these when people at work bring these in for celebrations.

My final tool has been to take Xenical (Orlistat). I know many people are naysayers on weightloss medication arguing if you can do it without these why bother. Well for me I think initially the higher weightloss was encouraging which helped me stick to the plan. I also think it has helped me avoid plateauing (a problem in the past) and even now when I'm only losing 3-4lbs a month, at least I am still losing. I think without the Xenical I would not be losing by now. When I ge to target I intend keep eating like I am currently minus the Xenical.

Well done, Kitty! I'm doing my own thing at the moment as well - I think you're right when you say that it's probably best not to look at any particular food as 'bad' food, but incorporate most things in moderation as part of a healthy, balanced diet. So I'm really encouraged by your results, as that is pretty much what I'm doing also.

You go girl!

Yes, its very similar to Rosemary Conley (not quite as strict), I did do that once.

Its taken me 22 months. I hope to be at goal by my second anniversary (7 May).

Hi Kitty, very well done on your weight loss!

It's very motivating to read about someone being successful. Your diet sounds quite like mine - the balanced approach.

It's interesting what you say about using xenical. I may consider using this myself should I hit a stubborn plateau.
