Default Lost My Job

So at the end of the school day today, my boss called me into his office. I didn't think anything of it, even after I came in and saw that the assistant principal was there too. They told me that I am doing a great job and I am a great teacher, but that they are not rehiring me for next year. Then, the principal said that he knows I will be a great teacher in whatever district I end up in next year, just not his. And he also said that he knows that I will be in a district next year, and he will help me get a job. But he wouldn't tell me why he was letting me go. I had no idea this was going to happen, and have had nothing but positive feedback from all of the administrators. I was completely blindsighted and am so depressed right now....

Oh I am SOOO sorry !! Don't they have to let you know why you're not being rehired?

You'll find a good job soon, and it might be a better one

Good luck!

I'm really sorry that happened! I'm sure you're very down about it, but it sounds really positive so hopefully you won't have a problem getting another job!

It is really hard to lose your job. in the last 6 months 2 of my sisters and my uncle lost their jobs. Also a lot of my friends parents did as well. it is really tough.

Hope you're ok. Keep us updated

Thanks guys. They don't have to tell you why they're letting you go if you're not tenured. They just said I'm a great teacher, and they will work with me to find a new job.

... what on earth?? Why would they ever fire you without telling you WHY? Without giving you a reasonable idea of what went wrong, what you might avoid in the future...
Obviously you can't have done anything major to CAUSE it, or they wouldn't happily go on about helping you find a new job!
That's so unfair though.

This too shall pass, chica. In the future, when you have a new job and can barely remember what teaching at this particular school was like... you'll think back on this and laugh. Screw them!

First let me say I am so sorry! I am a certified elementary school in MI, but it is so hard to find a job here that i have been looking for over 3 years now... I am actually starting an RN program after I finish this semester.... It is so sad when I hear about teachers losing their jobs.... I think worse than those of us who couldn't find a job teaching at all...

Is it possible your district is just elmininating the postion all together? I don't know much about IL, but in MI teachers are being let go all the time- a way to save money. The kids are the ones who suffer tho in overcrowded classrooms...

I hope you find some for next year soon!

I'm so sorry to hear that! I teach school also. I know that sometimes the school will fire the newer teachers to save money, but they may hire them back at the begining of next year. I think this is called rifting? Not positive though. Let me tell you something...you have experience and that is what will get you a new job much sooner than the next person. You have already had a teaching position and it sounds like you will not have any trouble getting wonderful references. You are at an advantage with that! Try not to be discouraged. Keep looking. Something always comes up

I'm sorry to hear you lost your job, but it must not have been anything you did, as they want to help you find another job. It's probably the economy. They did a lot of lay offs from my job as well over the last couple of weeks too.

Hey girl, I feel your pain! I was laid off a couple of weeks ago. Have a good cry, treat yourself. I took the weekend off after I got laid off on a Friday and got back to business on Monday. Don't focus so much on the why, just do what you need to do. We're here for you girl!
