How do you deal with vacations?

  • Im going to visit my bf for the WHOLE MONTH of March, and im worried about staying focused. How do you ladies stay focused on vacation when its somewhat out of your control?

  • I think about taking a vacation too and all I can think to do is use my most effective too as much as it works for me which is caffeine. I start out with coffee and or tea in the mornings and try not to eat until around noon and I keep the caffeine handy and sip on it until I can get to 4pm or around it and try not to eat too much. Sometimes this works and sometimes not. Being in restaurants is just a "killer" for me. My need to saturate myself with food and eat everything on the menus just rears its ugly head. Good luck and no matter what happens or doesn't, enjoy. Life is short.
  • A month definitely is a long time to just jump away from plan. I think if I were you I would try to act as if I were at home. Offer to go grocery shopping with the bf. Make yourself and him a healthy breakfast, eat healthy snacks, stay as close to plan as possible for at least most of the day. Spend extra time going out and doing activities with him, and enjoy the month.
  • I stayed with my bf in California for a month, and I won't lie, I gained. And that was WITH hiking for about 2-3 hours a day while he was at work (he lives near a place with AMAZING trails). So if your bf has to be gone at work anyways use that time to work out.

My bf also has really weird stomach issues where he has to eat a lot of fat (but of course doesn't get fat himself) doctors ENCOURAGE him to eat bacon cheeseburgers.

My only piece of advice would be to not give up, no matter what. I had too many nights where I just decided I didn't care anymore. Still try to stay on plan no matter what, it's fine if you eat over your calories or something off-plan just stay accountable to yourself. That's where my downfall was.
  • Despite the fact that you may not always have control over what exactly you're being served, you have control over how much of it you eat.

Are you staying at your boyfriends house? Why can't you guys cook together? Why can't you cook for him? Surely you'll be doing groceries and stuff together. Just try to eat in a healthy way and don't use this vacation time as a free for all bingefest!
  • i agree with hotnew. I mean you gotta cook sometime! I would live there for a month just as I do at home. Buy things that are OP and that you can snack on. But also allow yourself room for flexibility. I mean if you eat out a few times or have desserts don't beat yourself up. Just get back on track for the next meal. It will take some will power I am sure but ask yourself "how bad do you want this......"
  • Well, I just spent 3 weeks in Jamaica (not at a resort)... Staying with locals, living the way locals live. I'm not going to lie, it was hard to stay on plan, and 99% of the time I didn't. I normally ate one meal a day, which consisted of fried chicken and rice, fried dumpling, fried festival, and fried potatoes... you see where I'm going with this...fried fried fried. Unfortionally, I didn't have much choice, as "fried foods" is a large part of Jamaican culture... so I just went with the flow, and managed to stay the same weight as before I left. Thankfully. Probably because I only ate once a day most of the time. HOWEVER, when I returned to Canada, I went on a 3 week binge, and gained a bit back. I'm just now getting back into the swing of things.
Dieting it not easy when your away from home. If your boyfriend lives in a country with proper grocery stores it shouldn't be an issue though. Just let him know you are eating healthier, and go grocery shopping with him.
but don't forget, you are on vacation - have a little fun and don't worry about it too much! Have a great time
  • On my last vacation i had donuts every morning for breakfast! lol i still stay exactly on plan but i didnt eat as much as i could have and i came bacdk and just hopped right back on the wagon! so i dont feel any guilt.. my advice is to not be too strict or it wont really be a vacation
  • I use vacations to ease up on food but increase activity. I don't restrict what I eat, I want to try new foods and "live a little"... and another way to "live a little" is to get out and get active. So when I vacation, I may eat at restaurants or eat some junk but I eat less often and I am always on the move, walking everywhere, going places that require extra walking. The last few vacations, I've even lost a couple lbs because of it.

Also, since you are staying with your bf, just cook as much as you can. It saves money and will likely be healthier for you.
