So I have to go for some testing on Friday morning and my doctor wants me to go on a high carb non-SBD diet for 3 days before. So this starts tomorrow. I'm so afraid I'm going to awake the megabeast! LOL Shouldn't be too bad though because I have to start taking Metformin again on Monday which means I'll be violently ill for a while, but I'll be losing weight from the horrible side effects and probably wont want to eat so that may help tame the beast. I'm just really bummed because I've been sooooo good lately and have been seeing the scale move after hitting a plateau for a while. I never thought I'd ever not want to eat refined carbs. Sorry just wanted to vent. Wish me luck ladies!
Any chance you can go high carb but keep it to mostly allowed carbs like sweet potatoes and whole wheat bread? I guess it all depends on what the doctor's reasoning is.
He said I can do the majority as healthy carbs but I do have to add some bad ones too. Especially the day before. He suggested bread and pasta the day before. I'm going for a fasting glucose tolerance test and his reasoning is that if I'm restricting my carb/sugar intake, when I go to take the test and have to drink the sugary garbage, my body/blood sugar won't respond as it normally would and possibly go into a type of "sugar shock".
Make it whole wheat pasta and bread, OK? I'm diabetic and have never heard of this but I gather it's the Glucose Tolerance test. As to Metformin, I take it and found the side effects were gone after a while. Ask if you can take the stuff spaced throughout the day instead of all at once.
Ruth..that is what i'm going to do. Yes it is the fasting 2 hour Glucose Tolerance Test. I have polycystic ovary syndrome and possibly insulin resistance(commonly go hand in hand). I'm going to be on the extended release one and I'll be taking it 3 times a day, but starting off once a day for a week, then twice a day for the next week, then 3 times a day the next week to try to have my body adapt. The first time I was on the regular Metformin was awful. I tried to stick it out for 3 months to see if the side effects would go away but they didn't. I couldn't hold any food down. Hopefully this time around will be better. I'm going to take it with meals and try eating half my meal then take the pill then eat the other half of the meal and see if that helps. Hopefully this does the trick!
Thanks Nikki!

Hey girl, I have PCOS too. UUUUUUGGGGHHHH!! I have to go in tomorrow because I might have some kind of insulin resistance. I've just been packing on the pounds like crazy. How does your PCOS affect you? I'm ready to just have all my girl parts removed!
Nullgal...I know what you mean about packing on the pounds....I'm 5'8 and I was 145 all through high school and through most of college. Towards the end of college is when I started gaining quick and with no change in lifestyle or diet. I went from 145 to my highest weight which was around 259 in a matter of a couple years. I would kill to be under 200!! The weight gain is my biggest issue. I'm probably insulin resistant too which is probably what caused the weight gain. I have a ton of other issues from PCOS too, but I'll PM you with those later on after work. It's a list lol.
