Default Changes you have noticed with your disease

Since I have been loosing weight I have noticed that the insulin that I require on a daily basis has decreased. I am an insulin dependant diabetic and this is huge!!!
Here is what I used to get:
  • Breakfast I got 30 units of humalog and 30 units of humulin N
  • Lunch I would get around 30 units of humalog
  • Supper was another 30 of humalog
  • Bed Time was a mix of 30 units of Humalog and 30 units of Humalin N

Now
  • Breakfast I get 25 units of huamlin N and 15 of Humalog
  • Lunch 15 units of Humalog
  • Supper 15 units of Humalog
  • Bed Time 10 units of Humalog and 25 units of Humulin N

I have almost cut my insulin in half!!!!

What changes have you noticed?

I'm Type II but for the past six or so years before weight loss, I was taking maximum doses of Glyburide, Metformin, and Actos and 20 units of intermediate acting insulin (humulin N) at bedtime.

After losing seventy pounds, my Glyburide and Metformin are down by about 1/3; the Actos is gone, and for a year I was completely off insulin. Unfortuntely, that didn't last (hey, this is a progressive disease after all) and I recently had to start shooting 12 to 15 units of Lantus Insulin at bedtime. Overall, though, I am definitely ahead of the game.

Hello, I am also insulin dependent and I take Novolin 30/70 twice a day. I have noticed that since I have started loosing weight and exercising more I have had to decrease the amount of insulin that I take because my sugar level kept dropping. It also makes a big difference in my blood glucose readings, my sugars run between 6 and 7 now as before they ran between 10 and 12. I find that I have more energy and I'm not as tired as I have been. Keep up the good work and I hope to talk to you soon and also I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba and have been to Hartney, Manitoba to watch my daughter play hockey. We had a wonderful time when we were there.

Take care

I started out on 2 units of Novolog at every meal, and 5 units of Lantus every night.

I eventually made my way up to taking anywhere from 18-26 units of novolog and 30 units of lantus everynight.

Now, I'm on 8 units of novorapid (novolog) at every meal and still on 30 units of lantus once a day.

I guess even after almost 5 years of having type 1, I'm still in the "getting sorted" phase.

I have noticed that I have to adjust my insulin more often now that I'm exercising and dieting. I have a hard time trying to figure out how much insulin I need when I exercise, even after nine years. I guess it is a learning experience for all of us. It sure is nice that we have people to discuss this with other than friends and family who are experiencing the same thing.

Take care
