Going to be seeing the ex soon...50 lbs heavier. Ugh.
Hi everybody!
Several days ago we firmed up plans to attend my youngest son's graduation from college in Durango, Colorado. And I got on the scale for the first time in a year or more. I knew it was going to be a terrible number, but I was shocked to see....191 lbs. I am short-5'3"-and have never weighed so much in my life. I maintained a pretty healthy weight until the last few years. I've packed on 50 of those pounds within the last 5 years. I cant say I dont know how it happened. Binge eating, eating without a care in the world, eating whatever and whenever I wanted. Glorious gluttonous eating.
It's going to be hard to see the shock in the ex's eyes. I dread that. I shouldnt care, but I do.
So I started 3 days ago to get myself in control and I'm doing ok so far (go ahead and laugh; 3 days does not make much of a track record). I've never been successful at dieting past about 3 weeks but before that was pretty much all I needed to get back in ok shape.
May 2, 2009: 9 weeks, 20 pounds. That's pretty ambitious for me. Beyond that, I'd like to finally get this monkey off my back (butt) and look good again.
I've been reading the posts here and they are very inspiring. I came to this site after reading the 3 Fat Chicks book and it looks like it's going to be a great tool in remaining motivated and staying on track, especially after I'm home from the graduation-I know all about the pitfalls of having a short term goal.
I started Feb 19th. My plan is to stay away from the scale until March 1st. Exercise wise...I think in a few days when I've adjusted to the calorie and carb cut, I'll feel more like getting out there and walking. Maybe it wont be snowing then, either.
Anyway, I'm here and I'm motivated....wish me well.
Good luck with the weight loss. Whatever you lose by graduation day, you will feel b. marvellous, and feeling good is 99% of the battle to looking good!
Yes, there's a 3 Fat Chicks book. I happened across it at the library and it was a down to earth, witty, fast read. A lot of it is devoted to all the diets out there and the pros and cons of each.
I cant post links yet, but if you want an idea of what the book is like, go to Amazon and type in 3 Fat Chicks on a Diet.
Rather than go directly to Amazon, shop through the Shop Link on the home page because 3FC gets a few pennies from every sale that helps keep this site free.
Anna, to the website. You have made a good start and will, I'm sure, feel much better about yourself by grad time. Even losing ten pounds will give you a great boost.
Thanks for the welcome, Ruthxxx! I can see myself getting dependent on this site for attagirls.
So maybe 10 lbs is a more realistic goal by May. 20 is ambitious, isnt it? I've debated with myself about this and on reflection...the important thing is the fact that, at long last...I'm not ignoring my problem anymore.
Reading this site is REALLY psyching me up, strenghtening my resolve.
ANNA ~WELCOME & GOODLUCK
(I am in ohio and its super cold right now~SO I walk indoors~I started out 20 minutes 3 times a day then switched to 45 minutes 2 times a day. just from room to room LOL Sounds silly but it works.)
GOODLUCK~YOU CAN DO IT AND 3 days is awesome Just continue to do what you did for those 3 days.
Welcome Anna from NC! Sounds like you have made yourself a plan, so you have already began your journey. Thanks for the info that there is a 3FC book, I gotta look for it. You should definatley lose your 10 lbs by May for a mini goal. This is the best place for support, inspiration, and great information. Keep in touch and congrats on your son about to graduate college!
Hi, Anna not only will you look fabulous in May you will feel it to. The great thing about this site is that everyone is in the same situation and we all need support at some point in our lives. I find that just telling people how I feel makes a world of difference. When I joined 3FC I realized that I'm not alone with this daily struggle that I have with weight loss and some how knowing that other people have the same struggle as I do sure helps me a lot. Good luck with everything.
Hi Anna77,
You Are On The Right Track And Whatever You Set Your Goal Be, Whether Reaching It Or Not, Whatever You Lose Will Be A Start, So If You Decide 10 Or 20 It Is A Start And Just Keep Going From There, Don't Stop And Keep It Moving. 10 Or 20 Will Give You Such Motivation And You Will Be So Pumped Up, You Will Keep In Going. We Are All Here For You To Cheer You On. I Do Agree With Tryingtostayskiiny, Keep A Record Of Every Single Thing You Eat. It Will Give You Accountability And Show You Just What You Are Doing Right Or Wrong. Now Kiddo, Keep Up The Good Work.
I am so wowed by the great people here who replied to my intro post. Many thanks to you all.
It's been a good 4 days. I feel great about having actually made a start, about feeling in control. My pants are more comfy-hey, sitting down in them without unbuttoning AND unzipping is just fabulous!
Again, thank you all for the welcome, the encouragement. This site is going to be a great source of information and support.
