Default Embarrassing....but

Here goes....each time I do SB I get constipated...I have both books including the Supercharged one and I know it says you shouldn't with all the veggies you eat...but I eat all the veggies and still...does anyone else have this problem or can someone suggest what I might try?

Thanks.

I had the worst experience with this. I just made a major effort to ramp up my fiber intake for a few days... tons of beans, V8, super-high fiber cereal (on phase 2). That seemed to do the trick.

Good luck

In ph1, it was terrible! I took stool softeners every night. It's better in ph2. Apples and oatmeal help. Good luck!

Are you eating a lot of cheese? Cheese will bind you up like nobody's business. If the answer is yes, I'd say cut back a bit on that or spread it out more throughout the day. Most importantly, drink lots and lots of water.

Wannabe, this is a common issue and we've talked about it a lot on the forum. Here are some previous discussions:

Questions about digestive track issues
Help....Plumbing backed up!
Constipation
SBD & Constipation
Food That Keeps You "Regular"

The major things you need to watch are:
  • Drink lots of water. Make sure your urine is very, very pale in color--then you know your hydrated.
  • Exercise. Your physical movement moves your bowels. If you don't move, neither do they. The major reason senior citizens have so many constipation problems, according to a doctor friend of mine.
  • Eat fiber. In P1, this means getting lots of veggies and beans.

Good point about the cheese.

Are you eating your beans/legumes every day? That helps too. Even when following SBD exactly as written sometimes things slow down. I keep some FiberSure in the house and add it to my food for a few days and it seems to get things back on track.

Okay I am one to think you can never have too much fiber so I take 5 capsules of 100% psyllium husk everyday with a bottle of water to wash them down and I am very regular...I also adhere to the veggies and beans But find this really helps...I was terrible in the beginning also and this got me back to regularity

a tiny bit off topic... my daughter is now 11 but from birth till she was 6 she had terrible trouble with her bowels. i would sit with her for hours in the bathroom, readiing her books ect. finally one night i took to the emergency room. she hadnt went in 5 days! they gave her an enema... she went, the whole staff was cheering her on, it was so nice. then we had an appointment at mcmaster hospital (childrens hosp) and they did a number of tests.. you are not going to believe this... for all those yrs i was giving her fruit.. and lots of it!! she was fructose intollerant!!!!!! talk about feelin guilty lol.... so she had to totally get off fruit sugars for one month. almost like sbd. then we were allowed to give her one fruit a day and no juice at all. she was terrified of bananas forever... last week she had her first one in almost 6 yrs. just thought i'd share what sugar can do to a body, its strange really.

I have a friend at work who used to eat SB and was quite successful with it. I just remembered a little problem she had, and though quite extreme, it kind of highlights this problem. She went to the ER at the hospital where we work and was admitted with abdominal pain. An x-ray of the abdomen showed her colon was full of stool and that is what was causing her discomfort! She was so embarassed, being a nurse, that she hadn't realized that's what was causing the problem. She went home after several enemas that "eliminated" the problem. I liked to tell her she was "full of crap".

1/2 oz of water a day for every pound we weigh is how much water we need to have. i had the same problem, especially since a bad wreck and back injury, water helps as well as peri colace or enzymes
