I LET you be first today, Ruth. I knew you were lurking!

Winter's back in these parts, but it's keeping a low profile for now. I can feel Spring right around the corner, and I hope my hunch is right that we're going to have an early one this year.

I'm going to help out at Maggie's Valentine's party this morning, and then take her out for lunch. We're going to try to meet up with some friends we haven't seen for a while for a playdate this afternoon, so that should be fun. We just have quiet evening planned for tonight, and I don't think we're going out to dinner for Valentine's Day, either. The restaurants are too crowded and everything is way over-priced. I can easily prepare a gourmet-style meal here for a fraction of the cost. That reminds me, I'd better pick up a nice bottle or two of wine today!

Tee-hee!

Cyndi, you were not really whining - just whimpering slightly.

Had a wonderful puppy playdate yesterday. Jazz and his brother played for hours. Last night Jazz crawled onto my lap and slept for two hours while I watched the Westminster Dog Show. Disney was tired too from supervising.

Darned cold here this morning at about 5ºF - what a change from yesterday morning! I was getting used to false Spring. I even got out a pattern and some fabric for a summer outfit - so dumb to even think of it when that darned silk shirt is still not done! Quilting seems to use up too much of my sewing time.

On with Friday! Wishing everyone luck today and Valentine cuddles tomorrow.

ETA:
Thanks for letting me be first, Cottage. Of course, you could have deleted me and grabbed the glory for yourself ... if Cyndi didn't beat you to it!

Aw, now, I would never delete you, Ruthie. I doubt Cyndi would, either, would you?

I hope you're feeling better today, Cyndi. I forgot it's a long weekend for a lot of you. The girls have off on Monday, so it will be a long day for me. We're planning a trip to the "Please Touch" museum, so at least it will be a fun day.

I don't have the deleting power so you are safe from me

Ruth - Our warm weather is gone too but at least it will be in the 30s most of the next few days (except today). It's still an improvement and I'm sure spring is around the corner, some corner

Cottage - That museum sounds like fun. We had something similar when DD was young and she loved it! We don't do anything for Valentine's Day around here though we do celebrate a first date anniversary at the end of the month so I can't claim complete cynicism.

Have a good day all

Good Morning, Mods and Cyndi!

I'm sorry your spring has gone for a while. It will be back! It's cooling off a little here this week. Last week was 70s; this week is 60s. I'll take it!

The scale is finally showing me love. I maintained 188 for 3 weeks straight! Finally this week is moving. As of this morning, I'm down 3.5 this week. Hooray! My official weigh in is tomorrow morning. If I see 188 again, I'm going to scream!

I hope you all have a great Friday and a sweet Valentine's Day Weekend.

Beautiful sunny morning in southern KY. I get the same weather as Rikki. I'm about 2.5 hrs east of Nashville.

Ruth, I'm still working on the quilt for my grandson that I started last Nov. I should say I'm not working on it. I have a little over 1/4 quilted. Just haven't been in the mood. He doesn't know about it or he would be driving me crazy to finish it.

cottage, have fun at the museum. I love the Bennigan's smothered chicken. The men loved it when we made it and said it was better than any restaurant could serve.

Cyndi, hope you are feeling better today.

Chelby, hope those 3.5 lbs are gone, forever. Congratulations!!!

We have a Vegas tripped planned for March 8-10, and I'm so looking forward to it. I'm going with my daughter and granddaughter. It should be lots of fun.

Off to exercise.

Good morning, everyone! Another morning in the office and I'm so happy. I may even leave a bit early this afternoon to get a good workout in and start packing for our weekend!

Ruth: Thanks for the early start! Sorry your faux Spring didn't stick around longer. I'm with Cottage in thinking that, down here anyways, we're in for an early Spring. I'm going to pick up my Farmer's Almanac this weekend. Even if it is a bit late, it'll be nice to have! I hope you have a cozy inside day planned!

Cyndi: :hugs: You're "whining" was nothing compared to the complaining I've put you ladies through! I'm glad you're looking forward to this long weekend...I am too!

Cottage: Jason and I tend to do our own restaurant meal at home for Valentine's, typically steaks with roasted asparagus, salad with homemade dressing, some wine and a fancy only-worth-it-once-a-year dessert for two. I agree that it's much better than paying for the same meal in some overcrowded restaurant! Enjoy your love-filled day with Maggie!

Chelby: Congrats on that scale movement! I'm anxious to see where I am tomorrow...I'm convinced I'm merely maintaining, if not gaining, after this week. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Pam: Your Vegas trip sounds like it will be great! I can't wait to hear all about it!

Me: Well, we're off tomorrow for a weekend of shopping and debauchery. I'm excited about this trip and am really looking forward to the break. I'm also ready to get back and get back on track with my workouts and eating. I've been quite sloppy the past few days and need to snap out of it. I'm sure the scale will be a wake up call tomorrow morning.

If I'm going to get out of here early, I'd better get going!

Morning, girls.

Today was looking to be a fabulous day...until DH left for work and found that our cat had been hit by a car during the night. I don't even know how or when he got out. We're usually so good at making sure that he stays in the house when we open the door -- he's been really stressed by the move and trying to get out every time the door opens.

I guess when it rains, it pours.

I have no idea how I'm going to tell Calvin. He's going to be heartbroken.

I'll be back for personals later. I have to work up the nerve to tell him and then DH and I are going to bury the remains.

A quickie for me chicks. I have been baking all morning and have made 75 cupcakes with pink frosting. The kids are decorating this afternoon, they get to make one for themselves and their parents. Lots of sticky fun..... I did taste test one yummy. Other than that not much going on in my world other than I am glad it is friday. Busy week end ahead, dh is going back to work on Monday and he has to go pick up his bus and then we have to go to Fredericton I am meeting my girlfriends for coffee and then we are off to a 65 birthday party for Jamies Mom and step dad, then Megan and I are skiing on sunday so I need to get all my week end stuff done tonight. Laundry, baking, cooking, cleaning and so on and so on. Well I must dash and take advantage of nap time and get my kitchen clean up I will try to pop in over the week end. Have a great day chicks

Zeff- so sorry about you kitty.. good luck telling Calvin, hugs to you both.

Zeff..I'm so sorry about your cat..my heart goes out to you...good luck with breaking the news to your son. I know what you are going through. My dog was hit by a car last year 3 days before christmas. My youngest sister, who was 10 at the time, saw it happen. She was traumatized for a while. The only thing that really brought her some comfort was telling her that he was with my grandfather in heaven making him happy now and he's taking care of him. Maybe try that approach? We also tried keeping her as busy as humanly possible and I had her sleep at my place on the weekend just to change the environment a little. I know it's rough no matter how you approach it, but good luck and best wishes.

I couldn't bury him. DH had to do it. It was really gruesome and I just couldn't do it. I'm sure I looked like a lunatic on the side of the road sobbing.

I still haven't told Calvin, although I'm going to have to soon because he's asking about him. I have no idea what approach I'm going to take -- we really haven't had to explain death to him before.

Back to packing to keep my mind busy.

Our bloodhound got hit by a car a couple months ago. She was a stray who wandered up about 6 months earlier. We got her 'fixed' and took care of her. After she got hit, we didn't get into the gruesome bloodiness or even the death aspect with Auston. We told him that Blossom went away. Sometimes dogs wander off. He mentioned missing her a few times, and we agree with him. We miss her too.

Now, I don't know if we handled it right. But, Auston wasn't traumatized, and that makes me happy. He has enough time to learn about death later.

I think you're right, Chelby. Maybe I'll tell him that Gary didn't want to move to the new house, so he's staying back at the old place. I just don't know how much a 2 y/o can grasp the thought of death.

my god. I have half a mind to just give all the kitchen crap away...who needs all of this!?
