Welcome to the forums!
I have to say that I took diet pills for a while- sure they worked a bit- then BOOM gained it all back (It was costing me $120 a month for these pills).
Losing weight isn't easy- there is no magic pill, in fact I'm no expert at it, but I'm still trying! I learn little things everyday- I'm going to go see a nutritionist for some help.
I used to do the same thing you did- no breakfast then ate lunch around 2 pm! NOT GOOD! Now everyday when I get to work at 7 am I eat something for breakfast. Today it was a fiber bar and some prunes. Then two hours later I had some almonds. They were very small bits, 10 almonds and 3 prunes, but it's kept me going so far. I'll be having some soup for lunch that's 260 calories.
By not eating all day your body hasn't kicked it's metabolism into gear- so it's not going to start burning calories. Then only eating one meal per day your body is probably in starvation mode- but then again we don't know what your snacks are- so they could have a lot more calories than you realize!
I have a food journal I write in now- and it has helped me keep track of my calories really well. I realized I was eating over 2000 calories a day before- no wonder I wasn't losing any weight! I've cut out all drinks except water, and then I have started eating more during the day so I don't snack like mad. The process is slow but it's working, I find myself eating less overall and not eating as much when I'm bored- I've been occupying my time with things other than food.
It's hard, you may say you don't have time to eat breakfast, well make some time! I bring food on Monday to work and slowly go through it during the week and it keeps me away from all the tempting bagels and doughnuts and muffins that people bring in daily from work.
I write down all I need for the next week on the weekend and then buy it all Sunday and get it ready for the week (as much as I can).
Losing weight doesn't just happen- you have to proactively work on it- good luck
