Default First time posting - 10000th time trying to lose weight

I actually stumbled across this forum after doing research on weight loss pills. I'm currently taking Reductil - this is actually my 3rd attempt at it because the first 2 times did not really work, mainly because I stopped taking the pills after a month (they are expensive!) - but hopefully three is a charm and along with diet, excercise and a steady paycheck to afford Reductil every month - I will finally lose the weight!

My issue is - I live in a country that caters to small clothing sizes and its impossible to get clothes that fit me! I'll usually have to buy my clothes when I travel to the UK. Where some girls go shopping (for clothes perhaps) when they are depressed - I go straight to the kitchen! It's a catch 22 really!

I hope I can really get into this community to meet people like me. To share stories with me. To offer support and even challenge eachother to lose.... weight that is!

A little about me: I'm 28 years old. I'm a size 14 American, 16 UK. Last I weighed myself (last week) - I was 190 1bs / 87 kg. Also, I'm 5'2" - which can't be healthy! I just bought a treadmill and TRY to speedwalk on it for 45 mins a day - but for the past few weeks, it's been like every other day or two.... Also, I have a poor diet. I don't eat breakfast - I only drink coffee. I have lunch and no dinner but I tend to snack in place of dinner - and usually on random things I find in my refrigerator.

Before I bore you to death, I guess this is me in a nutshell!

Welcome to the forums!

I have to say that I took diet pills for a while- sure they worked a bit- then BOOM gained it all back (It was costing me $120 a month for these pills).

Losing weight isn't easy- there is no magic pill, in fact I'm no expert at it, but I'm still trying! I learn little things everyday- I'm going to go see a nutritionist for some help.

I used to do the same thing you did- no breakfast then ate lunch around 2 pm! NOT GOOD! Now everyday when I get to work at 7 am I eat something for breakfast. Today it was a fiber bar and some prunes. Then two hours later I had some almonds. They were very small bits, 10 almonds and 3 prunes, but it's kept me going so far. I'll be having some soup for lunch that's 260 calories.

By not eating all day your body hasn't kicked it's metabolism into gear- so it's not going to start burning calories. Then only eating one meal per day your body is probably in starvation mode- but then again we don't know what your snacks are- so they could have a lot more calories than you realize!

I have a food journal I write in now- and it has helped me keep track of my calories really well. I realized I was eating over 2000 calories a day before- no wonder I wasn't losing any weight! I've cut out all drinks except water, and then I have started eating more during the day so I don't snack like mad. The process is slow but it's working, I find myself eating less overall and not eating as much when I'm bored- I've been occupying my time with things other than food.

It's hard, you may say you don't have time to eat breakfast, well make some time! I bring food on Monday to work and slowly go through it during the week and it keeps me away from all the tempting bagels and doughnuts and muffins that people bring in daily from work.

I write down all I need for the next week on the weekend and then buy it all Sunday and get it ready for the week (as much as I can).

Losing weight doesn't just happen- you have to proactively work on it- good luck

Hey Goldlion, I started here end of December and made a plan of what I want, set a realistic time frame, and stuck to it as near as possble, there is alot of good information here, challenges, and food idea's, I tend to stick to the 20 somethings and the chicks up for a challenge thread, they are great, every one is in the same boat and helping each other, I know that so far I have had more success than the 4 times I did slimming world, or the cambridge diet (that was ****). anyway If you want a buddy or any advice on the plan I have PM me =)

and Big welcome to 3FC

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yes there is A LOT on this forum and I'll have to explore quite a bit!

Next step is to determine exactly how much I want to lose - the ultimate goal of 60+ lbs or baby steps first - my S/C/G as I see everyone has and I need to one of those trackers too!

Welcome to 3FC, you will find a lot of support here. I haven't been here long myself, but have already found many friends. I am 51 years old and to tell you the truth, I didn't really start having a weight problem until I started using diet pills (I was skinny, wanted to be skinnier) any way, I hope it works out better for you than it did me. I have regretted it for thirty years!

I agree! I also am a firm believer in journaling EVERYTHING you eat. It helps to keep a more accurate track of what goes in. I quickly noticed that much more was going in than need to after about half a day writing it all down. Good luck!

I just started my dietblog today! It's amazing how much I ate today! If I'm not at the computer, I have a little notebook and note down what I eat. Note that I live in Asia and the food is probably a little different from whats usually calorie counted :-/ (a lot of the places I eat at don't share all the nutrition information)

Anyway, I'm excited to continue. It's officially my "first" day today. I managed to buy my 2nd month supply of Reductil too. It helps me get full quicker - I'm just afraid that I will depend on it too much! But from what I understand - it helps to "shrink" your stomach by not eating as much to the point where you get use to being full ..... I only hope to take it for a couple more months and hopefully by then I will already be in the swing of things ...
