Default Is it helpful to get a weightloss buddy?

I am not sure if one needs to get a weight loss buddy. Generally it is quite encouraging if someone pats you from behind and says" Go on Buddy. You are Getting it." or " It seems you have improved a lot and you're close to making it".

It's wonderful to have someone to encourage us. It's also nice to have someone to talk to because most folks don't care what we ate last night But one buddy? I dunno. Any time I've tried that ... they kinda drift off.

I'm always sure there will be somebody at 3FC. One buddy can fade into the sunset but 3FC is here whenever I need someone.

Yeah, like SusanB said!

Sometimes a buddy can be helpful if they are as dedicated as you are--but I've also known a pair of buddies to give each other permission to go off plan, and that's really not helpful. So, if you want to buddy-up with someone, just make sure that you are committed to following your own plan regardless of what your buddy does.

A diet buddy is great! And exercise buddy is great! But, like SusanB said, they tend to wonder off. At least the ones I've had did. (thanks Sue, I thought it was just me). So, by all means get one if you can, but remember, it's ultimateally up to you. When they quuit, you have to go on.

I have a running buddy who is as nuts as I am. We meet anytime and anywhere and run crazy routes, predawn, later, cold, hot, frozen, raining, etc. We've been doing this for a couple of years now and I am so lucky to have her run with me.

As far as diet buddies, I have about 80,000 of them on 3FC. I can freely obsess about stuff here and people are supportive. In real life, people get bored.

I have a weight loss buddy and we have motivated each over a LOT. We go to Weight Watcher's meetings together and work out at the Y togther sometimes and even ride bikes sometimes. We email each other interesting articles and check on each other a lot by e-mail.

What we do that is so cool is we call each other on the weekends or during the day to make sure we are each sticking to plan. We give each other encouragement and the best is we are in a competition to see who loses the most weight (I'm winning) and see who gets the most Bravo stars at WW (she does) it's a little friendly competition.

Also there is the accountability factor in there too. Neither one of us wants to fail in front of the other!

Workout buddies are great!

I agree. I've lots of weightloss buddies, but they're efforts are fleeting. I do enjoy the "real life" company when it comes along, but I don't find that it is necessary to my success.
