Default I hate living in an apartment complex...

More than that, I hate living in an apartment complex in a college town!

It's past 1am, and my neighbors are out on the balcony (our complex has a courtyard so it's extra loud...echoes like crazy!) and I can't help but to listen to their loud, drunken conversations, people spitting to the first floor, cussing...

The music's loud, people are yelling....ughhhhh!!!! I love my neighbor, and I don't want to be a wet blanket, but this is ridiculous...

Now they're singing Red Red Wine by UB40............

Maybe next year you can move off campus. As for now, umm ... maybe join them? "Red, Red Wine" is a fun song to sing.

i used to hate that about college / uni too! When you want to sleep everyone else is up like they assume that everyone else will be.

all i can suggest is to buy some decent ear plugs!

When I lived upstairs it really didn't bother me that much, but since we moved into a downstairs apt. I can hear everything my upstairs neighbor is doing! I can even hear the upstairs neighbor next door. It doesn't help that they are loud and hold parties every weekend. I've actually gotten used to it, except for when it is three in the morning and I can hear the girl above me + more stomping around like its the middle of the day. You just have to get used to other people's lifestyles when you live around so many others.

Better than living in an apartment complex and EVERY NIGHT you hear your upstairs neighbor's bed squeaking constantly over your head so loud that even earplugs don't block the sound...

I was so glad to have the opportunity to move to a CEMENT building! All I hear are the pipes thumping every once in a while and that's IT!

Apartments can be... a coin toss.

The one I'm living in now is rather quiet. The occasional baby noisiness from next door, but our floors are concrete (yay!) so no worry about our downstairs neighbors.

Not that you want to call the cops or try to get your neighbors in trouble.. but there are usually noise codes for towns. Past like 11PM on a weekend? Depends on the town I suppose. Tomorrow I might, politely, ask them if they could try keeping things down past 11 or 12. It is rude of them to make drunken noise late into the evening (morning as it may be).

Oh man I can imagine! The past 2 houses I lived in were multiple stories. In the first one my room was on the 3rd floor so it wasn't so bad. My roommates would have huge house parties and because I worked retail (dog groomed for a major corporation) I would have to work every weekend. Fortunatly our studio (dj set up, turntables, monitors, sub and concept lights) was in the basement so it wasn't so bad. Also, I can sleep through pretty much anything (hurricanes and tornadoes no lie, I've also been known to fall asleep ON speakers in a club LOL). There were times when I would be leaving for work at 6am and people were still up partying

The second house my room was on the first floor and you had to go through the studio to get to my room. The roomies were pretty respectful noise wise, but you could hear everything they did upstairs. It sounded like a heard of wild elephants.

I would politely ask the neighbors to keep it down after 12 or so (depending on your schedule), especially with people on the balcony. If they don't comply I would complain to the apt manager or the cops. I always hated when we would tell the neighbors we were having a house party and if there were any problems to please let us know first. One time they called the cops and never said a word to us.

Good luck girl. You couldn't pay me to live in apts near a college campus these days!

go onto the balcony and at the top of your lungs start singing this

"I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves, ohhhh I know a song that get's on everybody's nerves, and it goes, like, this, BUM BUM BUM" repeat x100 AHAHAH

But really though, that sucks... invest in ear plugs.

Lol oh girl I feel for ya! When I lived in an apartment my neighbors woke me up at 2 or 4am from Banging against my wall! Apparently their bed was right up against me, but even when I moved my bed I could still hear them! Needless to say I was NOT a happy camper! Definitely look into moving off campus next year or even getting together with a group of friends and renting a house.

Earplugs...

but I used to live above someone who used to have parties on a Wednesday night and doors would slam constantly...I was getting up JUST as the music stopped, therefore I decided I wouldn't do my usual walk into work, but cracked out my rebounder and happily caused a lot off noise for an hour and half..(there was only 2 off us in this duplex)

.set my stereo for sleep mode in 4 hours and walked out(leaving a very bad and cheesey song playing, I think it was Mr Blobby)

. I came back to find a note from them. Saying sorry.

Do you have a car? maybe for next semester or when your lease is over you can move a little further away from campus. Might be less expensive too.

Haha man...what a long night! I finally got to sleep though.

I actually DO live off campus! It's the courtyard (our complex is a perfectly square building with the middle cut out...need I say more?) that makes everything so loud. Plus we have sliding glass doors that are freakin LOUD!

Also, I pretty much live in a cave...lol! I rarely get full cell phone service because the entire building is solid concrete.

I mean I've put up with it for 4 years (my old neighbors above me and were Romanian...they had the WILDEST parties with lounge-type singing, different-sounding music, crazy stomping..the whole sha-bang! lol) But I graduate in 4 months...sighhhh
