Freaked out about going on vacation

  • Hi Ladies! I am going to Oregon for five days on Thursday. The problem is vacations are a HUGE trigger for me where I literally eat everything in sight and gain at least five pounds! Every time I promise myself that I will not, but the second I get on that plane I am eating. I REALLY want to stay accountable and not go off plan--not only because of the weight gain from binging on the trip, but also because sometimes I can't get back OP when I get home and end up gaining 10 pounds before I start dieting again. I REALLY want to meet my V-Day goal of 144, so these five days are crucial. Does anyone else have this problem and what did you do about it? Thanks!
  • i do have this problem. anything really that interferes with my regular schedule. over the holidays, i did some traveling and experienced this same thing. and now, even being back home, im still not back into the swing of things. i'm just trying to take it one day at a time, i guess. little by little get back to where i was with my regimen.

it helped today to try on a pair of "progress" pants i have. they are starting to feel not as loose, so that was a bit of a rude awakening. i guess i didn't really realize that i was gaining weight til i tried them on.
  • I'd say that it's still vacation so you can be a little lax. I would take some healthy snacks on the plane and with you in general. Limit yourself to one sweet thing a day.... plan activities that will get you moving.
  • I would say the same thing, try to stay active and do things on your vacation instead of eating during it! It was hard for me to grasp at first as well...you don't just have to eat on your vacation...lol have fun when your on the plane try reading a great book, and get lots of gum...all different flavors work, get a few!!
  • Ugh your post sounds exactly like me!!!!! I bought my own snacks.. fire balls work well.. they last for a long time. Just have fun! Try to maintain.. if you try to lose, you may slip and that could trigger more binging, etc. I also get nervous any time I am out of my usual comfort zone with eating. Good luck and dont' beat yourself up!
  • I'd say to not try and do strict calorie counting but rather stick to the basics. Avoid snacking and have medium sized healthy meals. This is what I do whenever I go on vacation, for example, for breakfast I try to fill up on fruit and a little cereal or granola. Lunch maybe a turkey sandwich or soup or salad (beware of cream based soups and fatty salad dressings). Then for dinner I'll get fish or chicken, with a little starch and lots of veggies. If you must have dessert, share with someone! But remember its vacation and you can't be perfect.

BTW, I live in Oregon. What part are you visiting? And why?
  • Thanks guys! I guess staying active and eating maintenance is the way to go. That way I can still have fun and not feel like a blob.
