S/C/G: 307/lost 140+ lbs/125

Default UGH!!! gained 0.6 lbs even when busting myself on the treadmill!

AUGHHH!

I had a feeling the other day that there was a chance I wasn't going to lose weight since I had been feeling muscle building in my legs since I upped my treadmill exercise by incline/mph and added pilates to my overall exercise routine.

The other factor is I'm most likely due for that dreary TOM in the next couple of days.

It's frustrating ESPECIALLY when you bust yourself exercising. I'm a calorie counting **** and eat a lotta veggies, lean poultry, et al-- drink at least 8 glasses of water/herbal tea a day.

I understand that my weight could stall or stay the same for a couple of weeks while I'm on TOM and also my body could just need some time to adjust to the increased aerobic challenges before it feels alright to drop some more pounds here.

I'm still 195 lbs but it was just...

Disappointing. To see that on the scale, ya know?

I just wanted another week or two of weight loss before my body wised up and stayed the same.

Ah well, I went ahead and bought some dumbbells today. I figure I might as well keep chugging away on building muscle and increasing my endurance on the treadmill (I got up to 4.3 mph on a level 5 incline today and it felt G.R.E.A.T.! )

It's just one of those dates with the scale that doesn't always turn well

I don't think muscle building is likely to be a factor because strength training builds mass and cardio doesnt?

It also takes a lonnnng time to even gain a pound of muscle.

I feel your frustration but have a feeling you'll get a large loss soon..bodies are weird.

I'd think it's more likely TOM then muscle, like Emily said. It take months and month of strength training to build muscle.

That good old scale weighs lots more then just our fat. There's hair, organs, bones, yes - muscle and lots and lots of water. About 60% worth. It would be next to impossible for our water to stay the same day to day.

Keep on hitting that treadmill and sticking to your plan. Create that calorie deficit. If it's water weight due to TOM or any other reason, that won't stop the FAT from coming off. Just might not show up on the scale right away.

Don't let it get to you. The scale is just a tool that we use to measure our bodies. It doesn't indicate precisely what part of us we've gained or lost in a particular day or week.

Don't let the scale dictate your progress. You said you felt great with your workout, increased your intensity and added pilates. That's something to be proud of! Numbers aren't always an accurate indication of you success. Hang in there, the pounds will start to come off again soon!

Just a note that while cardio doesn't specifically build muscle, it is our own weight that our legs are carrying that does in fact build muscle. Working out on an incline also builds muscle. It's a form of strength training at the same time that it is part of cardio.

For me personally the scale is just a minor tool in my weight loss. I don't pay much attention to a pound here or there and honestly I never pay attention to the .whatevers. The reason is simple, if I pay attention to that then I find myself obsessing and worrying.

I also refuse to weigh myself during TOM because there is no point. I gain anywhere from 2-9 pounds during that time because of water retention and lack of sleep.

teawithsunshine, I bet it's your TOM wreaking havoc. My weight shoots up about 24-36 hours before. I use it as a way to motivate myself to work all the harder. A friend of mine from WW told me that if you have worked out hard enough for your muscles to be sore, you have worked out hard enough to put on a pound or two of fluid used during muscle repairation. It will come off quickly though. Keep the faith and keep fighting the good fight.

AH, I thought cardio didn't do a lot for the ole muscles. But I'm glad to be corrected because I do plenty of it.
