I play the piano, and years ago I played the french horn in the school orchestra. I would like to learn how to play the balalaika at some point, as my grandmother is Russian and it has that sort of homey sound to it. What instruments do you girls play?
How cool. I use to play French Horn! It was like in 7th grade though. I've attempted several instruments - French Horn, Trumpet, Drums, Clarinet, and Piano. I never even knew how to read music. I'd like to learn though. I'm thinking about taking of the Clarinet again.

I have played the violin since I was 5 & played through college (got a scholarship for playing). I play it occasionally now, more so to relax & just sheer pleasure now.....I also play the bass guitar!
I played the clairnet from grade school through highschool. I can also play the drums (quads and snare) and the sax. I always wanted to play the trumped but i could never get it. I played the flute one year but man did it make me dizzy.
I always wished i could play the piano. Someday ill learn.
junebug What do you mean till you came to your senses? lol
I've played piano since 2nd grade. It's fun - I do gigs every once and a while, otherwise I mainly play for pleasure - it's fantastic. I'm in college though, so I don't have a piano in my place - one I graduate, my gift to myself is going to be a new upright piano for my house someday!
I was a band geek throughout school I played piccolo in the marching band and the bass clarinet in the concert band. But I have also played the clarinet, flute, saxophone, and trombone.
I've played flute since I was in 6th grade (13 years). Haven't played it much in the last 5 years bc I have always been in an apartment. I just bought my first house so I should start playing more. I might have to take my tongue ring out to play bc it makes it a little harder and sounds like crap lol.
I've been playing piano and violin for 20 years, flute (and piccolo) and sax for 12. I also play mandolin, guitar, cello, and bass but those are more recent endeavors, (last 5 years or so). These days it's largely bass but I usually get in an hour or so a week on each of the other ones too. I'm glad I'm not the only band geek though :-P I'm a classically trained coluratura too but the professional lifestyle was too hard for me so I do wedding cakes now instead.
I played the flute in elementary school and in high school. I stopped playing it for 4 years while I was away at University. I recently joined a local concert band and have started up again. It came right back to me and I love doing it- actually I am going to band practise in like 10 minutes.
I'm proficient (ie had training) at the piano, classical guitar, cello, and upright bass.
But I doodle around on just about anything, and was a fill-in player if local bands needed a guitarist or bassist for the evening when I lived in New Orleans.
And this sounds so pretentious, but I sang with the opera (as an off-stage voice) for a few years as well.
I went to a "for the arts" school and majored in music in college for a while before dropping out to become a beach bum. And then deciding I needed an income one day and went back for pharmacy school.
