Default I've found my problem - reastraunts.

Okay, so I've only been at dieting for real for about a week now. I am in high school, and for a while I would eat CRAP in the cafeteria. But now I bring my lunch. And all together, its only about 380 calories, and it fills me up. Breakfast, at home, is only 250, which is good too. So it would seem I am on the right track... But then... There is after school.

I have to drive across town to get home, and so I pass EVERY fast food place known to man. And I am so hungry at that point I never turn down the food I would earlier in the day. D: Its like for half a day I'm AMAZING, and then someone can ask if I want Sonic and I'll scream YES. But when I actually get it and eat it, I realize I didn't want it... Ugh. I'm pathetic. :[ Tempted to get a weight loss coach to text or call when I want this food, but shouldn't I be strong enough to do it myself?

You might try sneaking in a quick snack that you carry to school with you. As soon as school lets out, eat the healthy snack...that should make it so you're not starveing to death, and easier to resist the fast food dives.

Eat breakfast, eat a snack, eat lunch, eat another snack. Make this all healthy food with an emphasis on protein, good fats, good carbs, dairy, fruits, veggies. At that point you will probably feel much more able to resist the food you don't want to eat after school. The secret key to willpower isn't really willpower; it's planning.

A key for me in avoiding food temptation because I'm "too hungry" is to not LET myself get too hungry. For me, that means eating regularly...breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, snack , dinner, snack! That's 7 times a day. But it means that if I'm tempted by something, I can say "Well, that sounds good, but I've got a healthy snack in my purse, and that would be a better choice".

In my experience, in a choice between "fast food" and "ravenous", fast food always wins. In a choice between "fast food" and "healthy, on-hand food", you have a MUCH better shot of making the healthier choice.

How many times are you eating a day? Are you taking snacks to school?

Thanks guys. :] I am thinking of adding something else to my lunch and eating it in my last period, because the teacher is pretty chill... So then my stomach will have time to settle and get full?

I normally eat breakfast, little snack, lunch, dinner. Once I actually get home, I find I'm not too hungry. But if I'm on the way its like OMGGGG. I think I should just focus on the road or listen to music or something. Distract myself.

Yea, a big crunchy apple would be good to carry in your bag for the way home. Eat it in the car at the time you would be stopping by sonic, (yuck, btw!) Also, maybe you could stop taking passengers for a while until you can get comfortable driving past the FF places and not being tempted by friends.

PLAN!

i used to be the same way.. i used to work in a bakery and all day long i could go with out eating one unhealthy thing, and sweets are one of my major weaknesses, but on the way home.. i would cave and i would go to wendy's or crack in the box.. or whatever i passed. I think alot of it was because i have so much more will power in front of people, i could starve in front of people if i had to...just so they dont see me being weak and putting something gross into my body.. but when im alone.. i dont have anyone to hide from.. i can give into that weakness, no matter how guilty i felt afterwards.

Oh and thank GOD we dont have a sonic in my town, the closest one is like 20 miles away, but that is my favorite fast food place ever.. its my weakness.. Texas has them all over and What-a-burger.. yummy. None of those here in Cali though.. thank goodness.. or not.. because if ive been good, and allow myself that treat.. i would have to drive to texas! lol

I think the most important thing is not to let yourself get really hungry. When I do that I am more apt to cave in to temptations. Snacks in between meals really do help you make better choices. Also keep focus toward how much you want to reach your goal. Is it important enough to say NO to the fast foods? If you do stop by with some friends maybe you could try to make better choices. (It's really hard sometimes at fast food places) Anyway, keep at it and you will reach your goal!!

My best advice would be to add a snack before you have to make the trip home. Not so small that you are still hungry and tempted, but something healthy and substancial enough that it will curb your appetitie before dinner. Have you tried taking a different route? Maybe if you could kind of break the habit of being tempted to stop at a fast food rest. you could change the behavior. Sometimes works for me. Good Luck!!!!

Also, for awhile try not carrying money with you. Makes it harder to buy. If it is your car, lock your wallet in the trunk so you cant drive through. If you are riding with friends, try not carrying any money you dont need for planned purchases that day. Good for your budget too.

I agree with taking extra snacks to eat through out the day. You can even eat your snack before you leave school when it dismisses. Carrying money helps ALOT. I used to do that all the time.

I agree with what everyones been telling you... have a snack handy. I ALWAYS have cravings for chocolate.. so I always carry a few miniature sized dark chocolate hershey pieces with me. I only eat 6 pieces a day - which adds up to about 200 calories... so anytime I consume one, I remind myself how much I have left by saving the wrapper. It really helps.

Oh, and I don't know about you... but the heart burns I get are enough to keep me away from McDonalds and any other fast food joints.

Like everyone else has said, carry snacks in your car. Maybe some sunflower seeds? They'll keep you busy.

Since moved to CA from TX I rarely go out to eat or have fast food. They don't have Chic Fil A, Sonic, or Taco Bueno. Those were my weaknesses.

You've gotten great advice...I'd also suggest adding some calories to breakfast and lunch...you are really low. Being a bit fuller might lessen the cravings as you drive by. (The snack will help with that as well.)

One of the problems for me is the pressure to eat with friends, even if I'm not hungry or don't want it. Maybe that's what's happening to you?
