Ok I sort of got into this with Mrs Jim in a diet plan area and thought ther might be more of us horse lovers out there who prefer this sort of excersise. I have been trying to lose weight for the past year and as of this week have lost 50 pounds!
I hate excersise but love to ride my horse Whiskey(hence the name Whiskey's mom) So I have been trying to include more riding in my weekly routine. I have been a profesional trainer and riding intructor in the past and would love to assist any of you who might want to try riding for excersise and fun. I will try to keep up with everyone but I usually only visit a couple of times a week.
Can't wait to hear from all of you horsey people out there!

Check out The St. Petites Day thread (on the support forum). I know that 2-3 ladies over their ride horses. I remember a recent discussion on how many exercise points do you get for riding, grooming etc...

Just pop on over an introduce the subject. I'm sure you'll get a response!

I just checked www.fitday.com and they do have horseback riding listed as one of their calorie burners! They estimate it according to your body weight so you'd have to log in and put in all your stats. I've been using it for well over a month now, it's a great tool!

They have: general riding; saddling horse; walking; trotting; and quotis.

Check it out!

Trust me I know riding burns lots of calories! I don't realy need to know about the points for each excersise but thanks for the info. I'll check out those sites. I am not as fanatical as some of you gals about points for everything. I just know what works. Eat less but better quality and lots of excersise. Horseback riding is a great way to get youre excersise and have fun at the same time.

Whiskey's Mom -

I'm still jealous of you though...

The California Lotto is up to $80 million, guess I'd better buy a ticket!! Then I can have my own horse too (plus one for hubby, two for my niece and nephew...)

Ok I was Whiskey's mom and still am but this new format, although nice has some kinks and I could not log on for anything no matter what I did. So I am now Cowgirl.
Mrs Jim, I wish I could give you a horse! Please don't waste youre money on the lotery though. Save it instead until you can afford lessons or to lease a horse or something. If you lived nearer i'd even let you ride Whiskey. In our stable there is a georgous arabian mare for lease for $150 a month. Too bad you live so far away! Perhaps you could find somthing like that where you live?
Well on to the reason we are all here. I lost that 5 pounds I was strugling with last month! Now I am fighting off another 5. I heard on the news the other day that youre body sometimes reaches what is called a set point, and after reaching that it is very difficult to loose. Oooh those powere bars are so good that it is east to keep on the routine of two a day and one regular meals. I got the harvest variety and the chocolate, toffee crunch is delish. My mouth waters just thinking about it! I didn't ride lst week because I was sick with bronchitis and it was such a nice day too. Today it is snowing. We only got a few inches. Makes me glad I don't live in Ct anymore. They are getting aroung two feet!

I usually don't come back this soon but I just wanted to update yesterdays post. I did get to ride. We did not get that much snow, about 4" and my buddy at the stable called to see if I wanted to go. As it turned out her horse lost a shoe and she could not ride so I went alone. It was sooo pretty. All of the trees and bushes looked like they were made of spun glass. I almost needed sunglasses. I only rode for about a half hour but then I helped the stable owner clean some stalls so I got lots of excercise in that way. I also wanted to include a pic of my horse Whiskey. This was taken last summer. Can you believe he is 32?!

Default I'm jealous too!

cowgirl

Whiskey is beautiful.

I've always wanted to try horseback riding. But I must admit they do intimidate me somewhat. The last time I had an opportunity to go on a horseback riding tour in Big Sur, CA, I totally wimped out. I had no idea you could lease a horse.

Default I agree - Whiskey IS gorgeous! 32???

I'm still coping with the new format myself! Right now, all my money is going to the IRS. Gotta love 'em! My boss is taking riding lessons twice a week now. I am so envious - she is going on a two-week horseback trek through India in the summer of 2002. She's paying $40 for a 30-minute private lesson, and $45 for an hour-long group lesson...

Leasing horses around here - easy to find HORSES, hard to find affordable places to keep them. The least expensive boarding place I could find was $300 for pasture boarding. Of course that does not include farrier, vet bills, etc. I haven't given up though - I'll own my dream Arabian yet!

Wow $300 is a lot! Around here it can get that high but that is for a very good training stable with all the extras! I board at a stable which includes clean stalls, daily turnout, and they make a twice yearly vet appointment for worming and shots. We have to pay for that but the whole barn getting done at once cuts down on the farm call charges. The board is $150\month I was talking to the stable owners and they were telling me that the usual lease agreement for a horse here is 1|2 of the cost of board pluss shoes. I think the owner takes care of the vet bills but I'm not sure. A lot of people have horses they don't ride and they just want them to be excersised. When I cared for my horsses myself I would trade riding privilages in exchange for someone caring for them when I was on vacation. Last year I traded riding privilages for the use of a fenced pasture and shed. You just have to look around you never know what oportunities are available.
Extra excersise this week visiting some people who enjoy the Watchtower magazines that I offer. I'm maintaining 275 so now on to looseing another 5 ponds! Slow but sure I'm gonna get there! Can't wait till spring so I can get out more.

Hmmm, I had hoped ther were more horse people visiting here. But I will keep this up anyway. Yeasterday I rode for two hours. We had beautiful weather, in the upper 50's. I think we rode about six miles. Made a pit stop at my house for a potty break and apples for the horsses. Wow was I pooped but felt great. I took my frind to an old railroad tunnel that I used to ride through a lot. The horses did not want to go in but we convinced them and they went. There was a lot of ice inside though so we did not go all the way through.
I have just gotten over my period and is is good to see those water pounds gone. I can really see a diference in my body. Everything fits better and I wore a pair of jeans yesterday that were previously uncomfortably tight. Even my chest is smaller and I am very well endowed so it is a big deal.
My flowers are comming up and the crocuses bloomed yesterday
