HI Guy's! I'm new here just joined! but have been looking around the web site for a few days! I find it really encouraging and have seen some great advice! a little about me! I started out at 306- although at one point I think I might have been even a little more maybe around 310.. Not sure exactly.. but officially the day before I started my new life style change I was 306- this was on December 9th, 2008 3 weeks ago! and today I am 291.1! I'm so happy to be under 300lbs again! Now I cant' wait to be gone from the 290's!
I'm doing a low calorie diet trying to stay around 1200 cals a day.. and have been doing great thus far! I've been exercising every day on my Wii fit for at least 30 mins.. plus I just make sure I'm moving around more in general If I want or need something i get up and go get it myself, I park further away when I need to go some where, I walk to go get my mail instead of drive by the mail box, etc..
any encouragement or advice is greatly appreciated!
Hi and Welcome!! I started at 306 last year. Feel free to join us in the weekly thread as well as the exercise thread at the top. For me counting calories is the only way to go!
Welcome!! This board can be very helpful and supportive and I do encourage you to check out the (fast moving) weekly thread.
One question though -- why choose a 1200 calorie diet?? Is it doctor supervised? I ask because 1200 calories is usually described as the FEWEST calories women should eat a day, and that's for smaller women. The more we weigh the more calories we need to do everything. So for someone who weighs over 300 pounds 1200 calories makes it hard for you to get all the calories and nutrients you need.
You may find you can do it for a while, but many of us find that it's very very hard to sustain so few calories, and that we end up going off plan and finding it terribly hard to get on track again.
I hope you don't think I'm attacking you -- I'm not! Just trying to find out what's up with you!
thanks you guys for the support! well I Started out thinking I was going to try 1400-1600 cals- and it did work- but I always felt too full... like I was over eating.. so I counted at about how many calories I felt satisfied each day and that was around 1200-1300- so I thought maybe that's where I should be- I have however read that 1200 is the lowest you should go with out Dr's supervision- So I've made a Dr.s appointment for this Wednesday to speak with y Doctor- I certainly don't want to do this the unhealthy way- but the quickest way possible as well.. that's for the advise maybe I'll go back up to 1300-1400 range until I speak with the Dr later this week..
Miriam -- I'm glad to hear you have a dr's appt, but many of us have found that most doctors do not have training in nutrition! She or he might be albe to refer you to a dietitician or nutritionist!
To give you some context, I started calorie counting at around 280 pounds, and I averaged around 2000 calories /day to start. Later I dropped it to 1800/day. I lost 100 pounds in 55 weeks. Everyone is different and we don't all lose at the same rate. But it does help to have somewhere to go down to when weight loss stalls...
on getting to below 300lbs it is a great feeling to see that number 2 first on the scales. Secondly to 3fc and to the 300+lbs
I think you are wise going to have a chat with your doctor regarding calorie intake at least you will know for definate what you should be aiming for daily.
