Default Hi

Hello to all.

Obviously, I'm new here. I haven't joined a forum since my Body For Life days many many years ago.

I am a 47 year old mom of 3. ( one of my angels is severely disabled ) Married and not very fit right now. I am an almost 5 year survivor of rectal cancer. ( of which I am very proud) Due to the 2 years of treatments, my body is just not the same as pre-cancer days. I've gained 30+ pounds. I'm not making excuses. I don't do that. The fact is, I had(have) severe neuropathy in my feet and hands. So, this makes even walking a somewhat painful event. Of course, it doesn't stop me from my daily life, but the thought of taking daily "walks" or any type of exercise involving my feet, makes me shutter. And mad. I used to do Martial Arts, bike, ski, and run around with my kids. I tried to go back to martial arts, but ended up at the podiatrist and off my feet for weeks. That was the past.

I intend to get this extra weight off and become the healthy individual I once was. I look forward to reading all the posts and gaining encouragement from everyone.

Annie

Annie,

You can do a lot with proper diet, as far as the weight loss goes, even if exercise is more of a challenge. There's also a Dieting With Obstacles board on this forum, that may give you some ideas and support.

Welcome Annie. I'm glad you are a survivor! And, I completely understand about neuropathy and painful walking - I suffer from the same. Have you considered custom orthotics? I recently transferred jobs to the Prosthetics Lab at our VA hospital - I never realized how important proper shoe fit and inserts are to not only the health of your feet, but also your back. I see everyday how inserts are improving the lives of many veterans and plan to invest in a good pair once I have the $. Also, Dr. Comfort shoes appear to be the most prescribed at our facility. I hope this info helps you. Good luck with your weight loss.

Glad you joined us.
As Cheryl mentioned, our dieting with obstacles forum is very active and helpful. That being said, jump in wherever you feel comfortable.

I'm so glad you joined us, and I look forward to reading your posts - and of your progress

Hey Anne - yes, a proper diet can take you a long way. You might also want to check out the 40-somethings, for those in that age range. There is also a "Physical Challenges" thread in that Dieting with Obstacles forum you might want to take a look at.

Wherever you settle, jump on in and keep posting. Can't wait to get to know you better!
