Default New to the boards... Hi!

Hi Ladies (and gentlemen).

I have been struggling to lose weight off an on for at least the past 15 years (I`m 27). Needless to say, I`ve been unsucessful.

In February of 2007, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and impared liver function, to go along nicely with my high blood pressure. The trifecta of obesity, I guess.

For the past couple of years, I topped out my Dr`s scale, which goes up to 350. I expect I was around 360 or so, but I`ll never know for sure.

At first, I bought a Gazelle, tracked all my food etc and got down to about 320. My sugars were in control and my liver function was getting better. The, I don`t know what happened, but I just started ignoring the problem and my sugars crept back up again. So did my weight.

Since July, In the past 6 months or so, I`ve gone down to 315. I`ve been working out at the gym, but not eating very well. I`ve gone back to my binging and the sugars have gone completely out of whack. They`ve gotten up to as high as 26 (should be around 5 - 6). I suspsect some of the weightloss to be due to the elevated blood sugars, which is not at all good.

I`m proud of myself with the work I`ve done at the gym. I signed up for a trainer at the gym, and am doing about 40 - 45 minutes of cardio 5 days a week, along with 2 (for now) half hour sessions with my trainer.

I guess I just need some support. I`m angry that I keep allowing myself to get to this point. I have 45% body fat, and am huge. I carry the majority of my excess weight in my stomach, which explains the diabetes (that and genetics). I feel like I`m killing myself slowly, and I don`t want to anymore.

Another thing that further complicates things is that my Dr just started me on Glyburide in addition to my Metformin. While the Metformin has typically promoted weight loss, the Glyburide apparently makes almost everyone gain weight. I`m scared that all that work I`ve been doing has been for naught, and I`m worried that I`m going to remain this size forever.

I was hoping someone here would have experiences to share with me. I`d ask in the diabetes forum, but I thought you ladies would better understand, considering how far I have to go.

My hubby is on both glucose meds you named above and has had no problem losing weight on them when he has tried. Welcome and good luck.

Big welcome to you Domestic. So sorry for all of the medical problems you are experiencing right now. The good news is that they are most surely changeable. I would like to invite you to our weekly forum. It is the numbered forum called: 300+ Club #1191. Tomorrow it will be 1192. We change the number each week so we don't have too many to scroll through. I can't speak to your medical things but I do know there are many here who can probably assist you.

Blessings,
Annie

Domestic Glad to see you here. I'm sorry about all your health concerns. My dr says I'm borderline diabetic, but that's only because he doesn't know what my sugars do when I've had too many carbs, "good or bad ones." I'm on the generic for metformin.
This is a great place to come for support. Please post often and I look forward to getting to know you better.

Helloooo and welcome! Sorry to hear about your health struggles. I myself struggle with a few health issues, mostly regarding my skin and allergies. It can be such a downer and very stressful to feel like you are constantly pushing a giant rock up a hill!

People here are very friendly and very supportive. Don't feel bad for the way you are. You're a lovely person! *SUPPORTIVE HUGS*

I started my weight loss journey when I was 340ish pounds and probably at some point in my life I was closer to 350. Now I'm stuck at 280 and plan on kicking it up for the new year! Yay for 2009!

I carry my weight in my stomach, butt, and legs. WOOO my stomach is huge lol. Sometimes I look at it and wonder what in the **** is going on in there? lol...

You're beautiful and we are all on this journey together!

You CAN do this, you ARE doing it, and obviously you aren't a quitter or you wouldn't be here. Welcome!

Sounds like you're doing fabulous at the exercise, and that it's the eating that's hard to keep control of? I know my biggest downfalls are always when I have't planned ahead. I gained a bunch back when I got a new job and was working late. I'd get out and hit the first fast food i could. I didn't go grocery shopping for 2 months! Even knowing that I rarely had time to take off for lunch, I didn't bring one in. I snacked on whatever was available, and since I work for a Pizza company, guess what's available? So whatever you do, try to Plan Ahead for success.

Great to have you here! Looking forward to getting to know you better!!

Hey Domestic Puss thanks for posting. I am also on metformin which works good for me. My dr gave me glyburide but that dropped my blood sugar so far and so fast I almost fainted. Now I take the glyburide sliding scale which means if my blood sugar is up I take it, if normal I don't. That works better for me. Of course don't do that unless your doc says OK

I am also starting over this new year. I was at 370 on 2001, got down to 250 in 2002 and then back up to 400 now. I know I can do this (because I did it in 2002-03). I'm going back to what worked for me then (WW Core-good solid low fat, high fiber food) however I'm not going to the meetings because I get more support online.

Welcome. Good to hear from a kindred spirit.
