Smile Mediterranean followers.....2009~~**

Here I am again!
Over the past few years I have given some half hearted attempts at losing weight! I really dont want to be this way on Jan 1, 2010. I want to change my diet! I DONT want to go on a restrictive diet or turn to pre packaged foods. I never feel my best when I eat that stuff.

He on Jan 1, 2009 I am going to improve myself, my health and maybe lose a few pound in the process. I am going to live a Mediterranean life to the fullest. I will buy and enjoy quality and good foods. Me and DH decided to eat fist full time and have other meats 1% of the time!

My plans for the new year is too.

Make 90% of food at home. I enjoy cooking!

Make authentic french and Italian and other Mediterranean foods.(which I already do)

Walk more; park at the back of the parking lots and walk with dh at night after dinner. He enjoys that!

make my own pasta and breads. (maybe a bread machine?)

keep fruits and veggies as a main staple of my diet.



What other tips do you have for a Mediterranean lifestyle?

I was intrigued by that Diet Log they have on the home page so I went and got one. Its fine with Sonoma/Med plan because there is no counting of anything. This log encourages you to set a couple goals at a time to improve. My first two are going to be getting all the sugar out of my diet again-I've let a little creep back in and that is never good for me, and trying to get 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. I'm not going to make a long list of goals because that might get overwhelming but focus on those two first and then move on to some others.

Parts of the Mediterranean lifestyle I have a hard time with are enjoying a sit down meal with family & friends, daily or at least several times a week, because I live alone; walking all over the place every day because I live in suburbia; local foods, because my farmer's market, despite living in So Cal, is bad.

But I love the food and the whole concept has greatly changed the way I eat and enjoy food. Asian food too, I like the term Mediterrasian.

I have got to get into the habit of sitting down to eat. DH likes that!
I also need more veggies.

I go shopping tomorrow for a kitchen over haul.

I really need to stock up on good foods. I want 2009 to be the year I actualy lose weight and not have a health risk over my head!

I'm ready to start living healthier by eating more fruit and veggies and less sugar and refined carbs. Exercise will become a priority. I will get my high cholesterol and pre-diabetes under control.

Hello again!!

I too over the years have given a half hearted attempts at losing weight, meandered around, bought all kinds of diet books, picked up the sonoma diet book from the shelf when I read on CNN news that it was rated one of the top 10 healthiest in out there. I too need to get the sugar out...badly. Start working out. I am not good with the slow change thing, never have been, but I am going to try and make small changes and see what comes up. I love the Sonoma/ Med. books...

I am new here and this is my first post. I have been trying a mediterranean diet for a little over a week now and have lost 3 pounds. I have combined my superfoods RX book with some of the mediterranean life style books and so far it is working. I am trying to concentrate on picking quality foods. I do honestly feel more full from all of the veggies and whole grains. My goal has been to add a colorful array of veggies at each meal. My next goal is incorporate more fish. Good luck!!

I've been trying to slowly add this in, but there are aspects that are especially challenging as a single person, like you said.

Adding in fish is also hard. I know we're not supposed to eat tuna more than once a week because of the toxins, and I know there are certain other fish that aren't safe. It's also hard to for me to cook it, as I'm not used to preparing fish.

Ckatgo - I listed the books below that I have:
The Mediterranean Heart Diet- Helen V. Fisher
The Mediterranean Diet - Marissa Cloutier, MS, RD

They both are great but I like the Mediterranean Diet better. I was more informative but The mediterranean Heart Diet has more recipes. I bought them both at the same time and they were a good combo to get together.

I have not weighed myself since I started I will only weigh myself once a month I get numbers obessed but I can tell you so far I feel much better. I have more energy and I don't feel bloated. I am not hungry all of the time. The fiber really fills me up. I wish you lots of success!
