ok so i get up this morning and weigh myself...yes i weigh myself every morning. typicaly if i gain a few pounds over night im not that worried about it because i know a lot of it is just water weight. but i have been working out on my new treadmill for 30 mins a day at least sometimes going a little longer, but my muscles are sore so i figure they are just holding water a little more and once i break though this im fine. BUT what im soooooooooooooooo mad about! is that last night...just like an earlier post...we ordered pizza.....ladies..........lets just say im ashamed to admit how much i ate. apparently i ate so much that in one night i gained 4 pounds!!!!!!!!!! i know right? this is where you all slap the crap out of me and say....what the h-e double hockey stick where you thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and im soooooooooooo mad at myself. becuase i was feeling great!!!! i felt really thin yesterday and today i just feel....for lack of a better word...fat! anyway have you ever just wanted to push rewind and just say...ok i screwed that up, can i try it again? lol anyway i just wanted to vent and admit this to people who would understand. also what do you all do to "fix" what i have done...do you work out more the next day? cut more calories for today? or just keep moving forward, no looking back now, whats done is done? i could just.......... anyway let me know what you all do. thanks!
ug I know how you feel, since the holiday I've totally gotten off track and even today I had some candy- i'm like UG I can't get the motivation back!
I'm packing up my gym bag tonight and making a healthy dinner tonight and also cooking a ton of food for the rest of the week that's HEALTHY so I get my *** back in gear!
apparently i ate so much that in one night i gained 4 pounds!!!
Well ... it takes 3500 calories to create 1 lb of fat. So unless you ate 14,000 calories worth of pizza on top of your regular maintenance calories ... then you most likely didn't gain 4lbs.
If you did, then that was one helluva pizza! (As an aside: 1 entire large hand tossed pepperoni lover's pizza from Pizza Hut is about 3500 calories - so I really really doubt you ate 14,000 calories of pizza!)
I suspect that more than likely the pizza contained processed meats and LOTS of sodium which is causing you to retain water like crazy. I suspect if you eat a lot of fruit and veg today and tomorrow and drink LOTS of water to help flush your system, you'll drop off most, if not all, of those 4 lbs in about 48-72 hours.
And for future reference - it's very unlikely that you'll see actual real fat gain from the food you ate yesterday. It takes the body a few days to process excess calories into fat. Most of the time if you see fluctuations in the scale from day to day, it's more about water and sodium and even the weather, than fat gain.

Water weight. I'm a daily weigher and I am fascinated at how my body responds to sodium in foods. Push the fluids today, eat how you planned to eat today (no "punishing", 'kay)....those 4 pounds will be GONE. They are not fat....
There is NOOOO way you gained 4 pounds of fat in ONE day.......
its probably water weight....or salt or something....give it a day or so you should be back to normal.
Don't be so upset! I would never use food as a reward or tell you that you DESERVED that pizza because of all your hard work...BUT...if you never treat yourself or if you deny yourself certain foods to the point you feel deprived then you will binge and may binge for several days.....and really blow it and gain 4 pounds!
I second, well, fourth, I guess, the water weight. Pizza always always always does that to me, too. it usually settles back out for me after three-four days.
Drink lots of water, don't do any crazy 'no calories today to make up for pizza night' response. Trust me, been there, done that too many times.
thanks ladies! photochick, you are simply....one of the smartest women i know. thanks everyone for calming me down...and awesome info!!! ill drink lots of water and take pride in a really healthy day! thanks!!!
Besides the water, potassium rich food helps the body process sodium -- the two work together to help control your body's fluid balance. One good source of potassium is bananas. After a day of eating too much sodium, like the Christmas ham I ate that put me up 3 pounds the next morning, I eat purposely low sodium the next day and try to fit a couple of bananas into my diet, but I DO NOT punish myself or eat less calories -- I just get back on plan. It took me 48 hours to work all of the Christmas pork product out of my system, and get my weight back down to where it was before the indulgence...but the ham was tasty!
Do some cardio and strength training-- I was up about 4 lbs from the holidays and worked it off again in 2 days eating normally and working out. It will go away, I promise!
Now, if someone could tell me why I ate less than usual yesterday and did a 1 hour "Muscle Max" class, 25 minutes of the inclined treadmill, and still was up 1 pound from yesterday, that would be amazing. I was so irritated when I weighed in this morning!
