Default This will be going on my top 10 list of...

Grossest things ever.

Last night at Sam's I was looking for low fat yogurt. I'm really not a fan of flavoried yogurts, I just like good ol' VANILLA. Sam's didn't have Vanilla so I got PLAIN.

*gag*

Seriously cannot stomach it. I tried putting a tablespoon of flavored protein powder in it (at the time i didn't think about maybe splenda or something)... didn't help.

I may throw out the container when i get home tonight.

Anyone have any suggestions?

What about adding some fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey to it. Are you sure it isn't bad? I have never disliked plain yogurt to that extent. You could always just take it back to the store and tell them you *think* it may be bad.

eta: If you are sure it isn't rancid, then I would encourage you to eat it--just doctor it up. I can tell you first hand that I have basically started eating all kinds of things I didn't eat before. I think it's key for weight loss. The plain yogurt is at the top of it's game nutritionally.

Maybe I'll ask my mom to taste it... I don't have a sense of smell so I can't just "smell" to see if it's bad.

But the first thought I had was that maybe it had gone bad. I don't even remember having this much of a problem with plain yogurt before either...

I hate plain yogurt too. In the past, I would add a packet or two of splenda and some berries. It tasted soo much better! Good luck.. I could not eat plain yogurt if it weren't for splenda! It is nasty otherwise!

I don't like plain yoghurt either. It does not make me gag (are you sure it has not gone bad?) but I won't eat it. I often take some fresh fruit with it, or muesli, or honey, or some cane sugar. Good luck!

We cook with plain yogurt and we make cucumber yogurt salad ... chop up some cucumbers into tiny pieces add to yogurt then get half a clove of garlic and add that and a pinch of salt! its a good side dish to eat with rice.

Can you get some vanilla extract and put a couple drops in?

Plain yogurt is good used as a dressing...
or when you add fruit, honey, granola to it.... Plain yogurt really has nothing going for it on its own.. kinda like tofu.. add some fruit and honey... high fiber cereal. you have your self a tasty, healthy snack...

if it's bad.. there should be a date on it somewhere....

I checked the date on it when I bought it, so technically it shouldn't "be bad."

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep 'em coming!

add splenda and frozen fruit. or splenda and vanilla.
i like to put a cup of frozen fruit, (sliced if its strawberries or peaches) in a glass, a 1/2 cup low fat plain yogurt, a little splenda the top with All Bran bran buds. It is so yummy, filling, sweet and crunchy.

I know exactly what yogurt you're talking about. It's disgusting. I couldn't stomach it and eventually threw it away and never bought it again.

First time I bought it, I thought the same as you. But I add a few drops of vanilla extract OR add cottage cheese & fruit and blend it all up.

That happened to me to a few weeks ago. I ate it with granola, not the best - i couldn't even finish the tub before it went bad... but - i'd say granola. ORRRR use it in a recipe, smoothies, cookies, etc.

I've noticed that there's a wide variety in the taste of plain yogurts. The less fat in the yogurt, the worse it seems to taste, but even that doesn't account for why some brands I find pretty decent and others do make me gag.

Doctoring it up is the way to go. I like flavored yogurts, and am not opposed to artificial sweeteners, so I sometimes sprinkle in a bit of Crystal Light drink mix powder, sugar free hot cocoa mix, sugar free jello (dry) or sugar free jello pudding. The sugar free jello pudding isn't calorie free, but it was really good annd I didn't use much (I wanted to duplicate the strawberry cheesecake flavored yogurt so I used the cheesecake flavored sugar free pudding and a bit of sugar free strawberry jello).

The biggest problem with using these is dealing with how to keep the portion you don't use. I use small ziploc bags.

Flavored syrups would solve that problem.

I have plain low fat yogurt with maple syrup every morning. It's worth the calories to me -- I loooove maple syrup. A couple of days ago I mixed in some pumpkin, too.. that was great!

I can eat it with jam mixed in, too... but the low-sugar jam I get doesn't sweeten it quite enough for me, so I end up having to add splenda or something too.
