Default thinking of seeing a nutritionist...

Ive been thinking about it for a while. I have numerous irritating health issues which id like to get looked at that my doctor cannot see any reason for me having.

I am very metabolically resistant to any weight loss, i have developed oily skin and hair again and acne spots at times, i have flaky scalp issues and i have massive issues with not going to the bathroom for upto 9 days at a time.

Has anyone else seen a nutritionist before? any input would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't but I would recommend seeing a homeopath. There are certain kinds of homeopaths that do an energy read on you- it's really cool and I used to be really skeptical of it but it really does work, at least it has for several of my friends.

They are able to see the levels of hormones, nutrients, and other things in your body. For example, my friend Sheena couldn't get pregnant, and when she did she'd miscarry. The OB/Gyn told her she likely would never carry a pregnancy to term. She went to the homeopath and he told her this specific hormone was very high and gave her hormone supplements to bring it down somehow. Within 2 months she was pregnant and now she has a 2 year old boy!

Another of my friends, Jordan, could not lose weight no matter what she did. Her doctor checked her thyroid and told her it was normal. She went to the homeopath instead and he told her that by some standards her thyroid was normal but that there is a high and low end of normal, and some people are so sensitive to those high or low levels that it could be her problem. So he checked her and sure enough she was on the low end of normal, just low enough that she couldn't lose weight. So he was able to give her some supplements that helped regulate it and she's now lost 30 pounds.

It may be worth looking into at least.

I've been to one before and basically what I was told was to limit calories and choose more whole foods. Wasn't worth it in my case but one may have better help to you.

I agree with the homeopath (in fact, I'm starting school to be one next year!) and/or naturopath. The nutritionist will basically just tell you what food groups and how much of them you need, etc. I don't think they really help you with health "issues" as such.

But the naturopath definitely will, and the homeopath will. I just found a new naturopath recently and she put me on some different homeopathic remedies and for the last 2 weeks, I feel like a completely different person!

I would definately recommend it! My nutritionist was wonderful- she helped me with the emotional side of my eating, as well as the actual physical side. It was one of the experiences that kept me going with my weight loss plan. Definately go!!

Good for you Paula, I think that's a great place to start. Hopefully they'll be able to help you get it figured out. I really do believe in that stuff, hopefully soon it'll become more mainstream. i know in the states some insurance policies are beginning to cover homeopathic care, which is a huge step!

prettypaula: can the thyroid stuff cause health problems? I got tested for my thyroid levels about a month ago, and I was on the VERY low side of normal. My hair has been thinning, so they wanted to test my thyroid levels. I am like 2 decimals away from being not normal...

Don't worry -- in Canada they don't do anything about it either!

There is what they call a "triangle", meaning your thyroid, ovaries and adrenal glands. If one of them is out of balance, the whole thing can get screwy. For example, my main issue is adrenal fatigue, and it causes my thyroid numbers to get a little high, but really the main problem is the adrenal, and when I treat the adrenal issue, my thyroid levels go back down.

It is sooo interesting, you just never know! The homeopath will help you figure it out. Also, if you haven't gotten blood work done lately, getting some and showing your homeopath/naturopath can really help -- especially a recent TSH level in your case.

I saw a nutritionist when I had an eating disorder - it was AMAZING. I went every week for about 2 years. I learned so much!!! More then I could anywhere else, and I had someone to go to every week who knew the answers to all my questions. She taught me how to eat correctly, why nurtition is so important, gave me great resources, helped me plan out meals... it was one of the most beneficial things I've ever been able to do. It was covered by insurance however, since I was recovering... but see if you're insurance will cover it?
