Default New and Frustrated

Hello everyone! My name is Basia. When I was 13 I was maybe 5'3", 5'4" and weighed 190-195lbs... I did some crazy excercise and did some other things (bad things) over a period of 4 - 6 months. I ate things like cherios for breakfast, and baked chicken for dinner. However, I grew up with a binging problem and I couldn't control it for 4 - 6 months. So my solution was purging. I became bulimic for 6 months until my mom threatened to have me hospitalized. I lost a total of 40lbs during that time, and managed to keep it off because I did other physical activities. During freshman and sophomore year of highschool I was in weight training, so I gained like 5-10lbs back, but it was muscle and I looked slimmer than before. After that I went into a program called running start which allows me to go to college for both college and highschool credits. I stopped doing as much activity, I took pilates and kickboxing 2/3 of the year. Then I hit my real problem... The past months I slowly gained, but the beggining of that summer is when I gained 20-30lbs in about a month or two. So here I am at around 205-215lbs and I am 5'5". I keep fluctuating because of my attempts to lose weight.

I need some friends that will support me and remind me what I am working for. I don't always think about what I'm eating, sometimes I don't even realize I'm eating. I need some inspiration and some motivation. Just someone to talk to about it at least every day to every other day would help me out so much. I just recently turned 18 and need to get myself together for the life I'm hoping will be a great one.

P.S. I'm a lot better with binging, but still eat out of boredom. My direction of healthy food has gone down the drain. Living with 3 people and our income of less than 10k a year is sort of a tight budget to get healthy food, so I need to work with what I have.

Hi Basia -

Well, we have LOTS of places for you to start. We have a great 20-somethings forum...you're a bit younger than that, but it's a good place to start.

You also might consider "Chicks in Control", our forum for those who have struggled with food control issues, including bulimia, binge eating, and other disordered eating patterns. People there will definitely understand where you are coming from.

Finally, look around all of the threads, or do a search for the word "budget". Especially in this economy, we have LOTS of threads about healthy eating on a budget, so search around a bit.

I'm really glad you've found us, and can't wait to get to know you better!

Hi Basia!

Congratulations on your 18th birthday & deciding to settle this for your future!

You've definitely come to the right place. Everyone here, regardless of background, knows what it means to want to lose weight, eat healthier & be healthier.

You can talk on 3FC 24/7 if it helps. Every single day. Or you can just search for stories to read or recipes. Anything that helps you.

I, too, struggle with eating out of boredom, or loneliness. And, although not a purger, I've have my serious binging problems as well. You'll find more than just a few who are working through this.

Do you have any sort of food or activity plan right now?

You can do this!

Best of success! And please keep us all updated.

Faerie~

Well, I don't necessarily have a plan. I can't really have a plan with food because we can't afford the right things. Even if we try to we end up short at the end of the month. My gf has a job that she's starting after Christmas, and hopefully I'll be getting one in February plus some government funding for people going to school. I'm really hoping to be able to start cooking again because I currently live with my grandma and she's old and doesn't like the "fuss" of cooking. When school starts up again in the new year my mom is supposedly going to start going to the gym with my on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, but I don't know if that will even happen (my mom isn't a get up and go person). I'd have a lot better chance of losing weight if I had someone to work out with, but I don't really have friends either... I used to do 100-300 sit-ups a day, but I can't bring myself to do it. Back then it was like there was no saying no to working out, like there was a force that didn't even let me think of it... Now I can't even say no to a candy bar... (Well I can, just don't have the urge to :P) Sorry this is so long, I haven't talked about this for awhile.

No need to ever apologize. For a lot of people this is the only place we can talk about it... or even the only place where others won't get sick of us babbling on & on about health & weightloss and issues... etc. You get the point.

I know, it seems like we all need to be millionaires in order to eat healthy. (Sad, eh?) But don't say that you can't just because of money. Start with what you're eating now.... what are you eating now? Maybe even small changes could help. For example, water is free. Now, since we're not close personal friends yet, I don't know you're feelings about water, but for some people they like drinking it, and some people haven't drunk water since they were toddlers. When I was 16 (long before I began losing weight, and long before I hit my all time personal high weight) I decided I wanted to drink more water. I began by just taking a bottle with me wherever I went. The first couple of days were a little weird, because I was used to the taste of soda & sugary iced teas, etc. But, after two weeks I remember drinking a glass of regular soda & thinking "wow, this is way too much!" So if you are one of those people that aren't used to water, I say give it a couple of days. You might find you feel better after drinking only water. And it saves calories.

Speaking of calories... Calorie counting is free, too. No fancy programs needed. And, technically, you can eat whatever you want as long as you stay within the calories for your body. Granted we shouldn't be eating pizza every day... but you understand.

Lastly, it's great that you want to start going to the gym, and good that your Mom wants to join you... but don't rely on her. Or anyone (even if they are a get up & go person) this is about you & what you can do for you. Weightloss is a very personal journey.

You can do this! And don't forget that when you get enough posts in you can always PM me.

I actually did start counting calories today. lol

Breakfast:
1 cup of cereal - 260 calories
2 cups of coffee (with sugar free syrup and milk) - 60 calories

Snack:
1 serving of cashews - 180 calories
4 saltine crackers - 50 calories

Lunch:
1 turkey hot dog - 138 calories

Total: 688 calories (so far)

I don't even know about dinner because our fridge is almost empty. I'll probably have an apple or make myself eat an orange for another snack... (don't like oranges much)

The only thing I can think of to suggest right now is to try and add in more fruits & vegetables whenever possible.

Unfortunately, they tend to be the more expensive items on our grocery list... but frozen vegetables can actually be a good deal. Especially since they keep so long. I use a bag of frozen vegetables with almost every dinner I have so they end up being a bargain for me.

No matter what, keep counting those calories!

Have you found the Calorie Counters area under Diet Central? You may find some useful tips there.

I actually did buy fruit with some extra money I had, so I bought apples and oranges (even though I don't really like oranges, but they're good for me...). I used to eat a lot of vegetables, but our grandma doesn't like us cooking. I can't cook up chicken and veggies if I want, mainly because she doesn't buy them a lot because of the cooking and mess, and because we can't afford them...
