Talking Looking for some accountability/support

Hi all,
My name is Gina and I am currently struggling in my current weight loss program. I gave birth to my first child in June and have been trying to get the last of the baby weight (plus the weight I was trying to loose before baby!) and have found new issues that I didn't have before.
Obviously time is a factor with a 5 month old around but have started going to the gym @ 5 am so I can get my exercise in before I go to work. However I find that i am just not doing what I need to do on the food part. I know I need to plan ahead but find it difficult to with my crazy life style and now throw in a baby.
My husband works nights so I don't have any help in the evenings when I get home and find it much easier to eat junk then try to cook an actual meal. I know this is nixing everything I am doing in the gym and am fustrated but feel overwhelmed on where to start.
I would love some suggestions on where to begin or maybe some helpful threads to look on.
Thanks for you help!

gina

Hi Gina!

One step at a time. First of all, congratulations on the work you're doing at the gym at 5AM!

It's true that exercising isn't the only thing that we have to do in order to lose weight, but we can't overlook the great benefit that it provides, especially when we use it in conjunction with good food habits.

You mention being an evening eater because it is easier. So a few questions and maybe a suggestion or two. Do you eat breakfast and lunch? What do you tend to eat for those two meals? Do you snack? If you find that the junk that's laying around your house is tempting you far too much, then I ask "Why keep it around at all?" The junk isn't good for anyone, and if it's causing you to derail why bother with it in the house? To make sure you have a proper meal on hand at night, I might suggest thinking about making a large batch of something that will last the week. Soups & chili. Salads & servings of whole wheat pasta. Keep them frozen or chilled and take out a portion for dinner.

You may want to check out a few groups as well. There are aged-based groups, as well as the 100 lb Club. Then there are areas that focus on specific plans that you might want to follow, from Calorie Counting to Atkins to Weight Watchers or South Beach. Lots of areas to choose from.

Take your time in finding a place you'll find comfortable. I'm sure you'll be able to settle down & let us know more about yourself.

Best of success!!!

thanks for the welcome Faerie!
I do eat breakfast and lunch. Usually for breakfast I have tried a couple of different things (oatmeal + fruit, egg + toast, bagel + ww cream cheese) and I find I am starving come 10am and my cottage cheese doesn't seem to cut it. Not sure if it is in my head that i am hungry or not, I really feel like I need to eat, but can't honestly say that my stomach is growling with hunger.
For lunch I usually do a ww frozen dinner or if I had made a chili that I have a bunch of.
It just seems like I try to start eating healthy and for one reason or another I have a slip on junk food and before I know it it has snowballed on me. I am for sure an emotional eater as well and if I am stressed at work or having issues with my daughter (she is teething now ) I find myself going for the comfort food. I try very hard not to have things in the house, but then I will just go out and buy something if I end up wanting it.
Thanks for the insight on threads to check out. I think the support here will be great for me, I just need to make time to check in and work on making some connections with people.

Thanks again!
Gina

I'd probably be starving come 10 AM, too. I found that when I used to work at the office, I would have to plan a snack between 9 & 10, and it was usually a decent sized snack, too. Cottage cheese, or yogurt, with a large pear or apple and then some carrot sticks or broccoli. All of that was my snack.

Don't forget about vegetables to supplement any single meal with. They can be surprisingly filling.
