Cool Reasons why you set a goal.

So I am working through a food addiction program as well as SB... I did an assignment that I thought was pretty cool. You might want to do it as well.

I want to weigh 150 lbs because.......

I want to be confident around food- in control.
I want to be smokin' hot.
I want to be healty.
I want to enjoy a variety of foods without over eating.
I want to be able to buy nice clothes in any store I choose.
I want to be emotionally healthy.
I want to pass on healthy eating habits on to my future kids.
I want to run with my boyfriend.
I want to have a healthy workout routine.
I want to have a normal BMI.
I want skinny knees and arms.
I want to stay healthy as I get older.
I want to raise my good cholesterol with more exercise.
I am commited to changing my habits to reach my goal of 150lbs.

Of course fill in your own goal and make your list of reasons why. I hung my list on the fridge where I can see it. Even if you have already made a list before it helps to be reminded what we are working for.
Good Night!

Beck uses this idea too and requires you to read the list every day. They also suggest reading it at tough times before you grab an extra snack. The list I created from that is more about losing weight in general rather than a specific goal and uses some of their starting suggestions.

Reasons I want to Lose Weight
1. I’ll feel more in control
2. I’ll be listening to my body
3. I’ll have less pain
4. I’ll be more flexible
5. I’ll have more energy
6. I’ll have more stamina
7. I’ll be at less risk for Type 2 diabetes
8. I’ll be able to hike again
9. I’ll be able to bike more
10. I will be fit
11. MUSCLES!
12. I’ll be able to wear a smaller size
13. I’ll feel more comfortable looking in the mirror
14. I’ll feel better physically
15. I’ll look better
16. I won’t be so self conscious
17. My blood pressure will go down
18. I’ll feel as if I have accomplished something important
19. I’ll be making me a priority
20. I won’t worry about fitting into small spaces, seats, etc

I'll share. I made a list back when I started this journey. Here it is:

More professional appearance.
Wear cute clothes.
Shop in normal stores – no more Lane Bryant, plus sizes.
More energy, feel better.
Do fun things with kids/get kids more active.
Look decent around the pool.
No diabetes, heart disease.
Won’t feel crammed into airplane seat or other tight spots.
Won’t break any more toilet seats (yes this actually happened once).
Won’t get “that look” upon meeting people, second glance when passing people.
Kids won’t feel embarrassed.
Better sex.
Stop snoring.
I will be able to wear a belt.
Chairs won’t squeak so much when I sit.
Will be able to ride rides at the amusement park.
Will be able to tie shoes without holding leg up.
Will be able to buy underwear at Victoria’s Secret.
Getting a family portrait done.
Shop vintage.

Last summer I made another list of NSVs after losing 70 lbs. This one was to remind me of all the positive changes I have already made. As you can see, I have achieved lots of the things on my first list. That's important because I am a very goal-oriented person and wasn't really thinking about the positive things kicking in along the way. The goal number at the end is not a magic number. Every pound makes a difference!

Size 22/1X to 14/Lg No more plus size clothes!
I can buy undies at Victoria’s Secret. I have tons of cute panties now, becoming an obsession really...
70 lbs. are gone forever!
Sinus issues/headaches are mostly gone.
IBS symptoms are rare.
Overall much more energy and feeling healthier
One towel covers me up.
No worries about airplane seats, booths, and other tight spaces
Shoe tying is a breeze.
I don't feel like I need to use the handicapped stall in the public toilet for extra room.
I have stopped hiding from cameras.
I have rediscovered my bones – collar and hipbones now show.
DD2 can wrap her arms all the way around and squeeze.
I can cross my legs.

This is a good exercise because I definitely need to refocus and remotivate myself these days to get the last 30 or so off.

This is the reason I want to re-start my journey...

1. I won't be so self-conscious
2. I'll be more comfortable in my own skin
3. I'll have more energy
4. I won't get winded walking up a flight of stairs
5. I will be making better food choices
6. I will be able to shop anywhere
7. No more squeezing into tight spaces
8. Look better
9. Feel better
10. Be able to get out and exercise more
11. fit more comfortably into my jeans and smaller sizes eventually!
12. Get within a normal BMI range, not in the Obese range anymore...
13. cooking healthier will have a good effect on dh as well

I am sure there will be more to come!

I'm more of a lurker but am feeling very inspired right now!

My reasons for being on South Beach and making real lasting changes in my eating habits are:
1. to lower my BMI - I do not like that I'm in the obese range
2. to lower my chances of developing type 2 diabetes as my older brother is pre diabetic
3. feel decent in a bathing suit in public, how I enjoy swimming!
4. have more energy to get out and DO more!
5. sleep better, I know I will be more comfortable
6. feel more comfortable in my own skin in general
7. be healthier going into pregnancy- I hope to start trying next year!

Wow this is a great idea.....

1. I don't ever want to have to go on insulin meds
2. I want to feel comfortable in my own skin.
3. I don't want to feel like the "fat chick" among groups of friends.
4. I want to get my PCOS symptoms under control.
5. I don't ever want to be told that I won't be able to get pregnant when I decide to try.
6. I want to shop for clothes in any store I choose.
7. I want to feel "sexy" again.
8. I want to sit at my desk and not feel rolls hanging.
9. I want to make it to my 3rd floor apartment w/o getting winded.
10. I want to get out of bed easier in the morning.
11. I want my confidence back.
12. I want to be as active as I used to be.
13. I want to improve my emotional state.
14. I want to feel and be healthy.
15. I want more energy.
16. I want to dance again.
17. I want to go to my 10 year high school reunion next year and not have people think "wow Melissa has put on weight."
18. I don't ever want to be as self concious as I am now.
19. I want my outside to match my inside.
20. I want my life back...no more excuses.

Though I am a maintainer on SB now, these are the goals I originally set for myself.

1) Get back in my smaller clothes that I outgrew last year.

2) Return my previously normal cholesterol back into a normal range.

3) Get my waistline back.

4) Help with my aching joints and feet.

5) Decrease my heartburn so I don't have to take daily meds anymore.

6) Gain more self confidence.

7) Stop thinking about food all the time.

8) Be comfortable in my own skin

9) Find a way of eating that is healthy and I'm able to maintain.

I'm happy to report that SB has enabled me to achieve all of these goals. Well, my feet and joints still ache a little bit, but hey, you can't have everything!

this is a great idea!

Top ten reasons I want to reach 150 lbs:

1) I want to have more energy
2) If I do have more kids, I want to be mobile while pregnant, instead of in constant crippling pain.
3) I don't want to jiggle in my upper arms, tummy, and thighs.
4) I want to wear shorts outside of the house.
5) I want to exercise in public.
6) I want people to look at me and say "damn, she's hot!" instead of "when is your baby due?" (I'm NOT pregnant )
7) I want to be at a healthy BMI for my height and weight, so as I get older I can continue to stay healthy.
8) I want to know how it feels to like the way I look.
9) I want my family and friends to be proud of me and my hard work.
10) I want to inspire someone else to take on their own battles and make a change for the better.

1. I want to be able to do all the things healthy, active people my age do.
2. I want to be able to ride a roller coaster, instead of having to get off because the handle bar wouldn't click, in front of easily one hundred people.
3. I want to have the confidence to walk up to the hottest guy in a club, and know if he turns me down, it's not because I'm too fat.
4. I want to be able to show my personality through my outfits, not the personality that limited plus size clothing forces me to have.
5. I want to play sports with my friends, and actually participate, instead of half assing it so I don't die.
6. I want to know what it feels like to be thin (been overweight my whole life)
7. I want to go rock climbing for the first time (never brought up the courage because somebody has to spot me)
8. More energy.
9. did I mention I want to be healthy?
