anybody just love the vacuum that they have and want to tell me what kind it is? i've had the worst luck with them over the years and it doesn't seem to matter how much i spend. i'm hoping there are a few out there that do (and don't) suck!?

Dyson.

I will never own another vacuum. Ever. I love my Dyson with a love that is probably unnatural.

Dyson all the way! I've never had a vacuum that works so well. Case in point: we had an Oreck and I could tell it wasn't doing much (we NEVER had to change the bags). We used it, went and got a Dyson and used it where we had just used the Dyson. Easily 2-3 cups of filth was sucked up. Yeah, a lot of it was dog hair (we have two dogs) but a lot of dirt, too. It makes me sick to think that we used that Oreck for 2 years!

Oh, I'm going to go against the grain here and recommend a Kenmore Progressive Bagless. This thing really really sucks and has an indicator light that will tell you when your floors are "clean", although sometimes it takes it a few seconds to register that. I know it's doing its job because I have to empty the canister frequently... haha.

I am the most frustrated person in the whole wide world when it comes to vacuums! Mostly because I have a huge backyard that is nothing but DIRT! I'm not joking! My backyard is at least 7-10 inches of pure fine DIRT!
And to top that off, I have two huge dogs that not only add their share of dog hair, but that also drag in all that dirt and dust from the backyard!!

I'm not joking, I have to sweep my floors twice a week and each time filling up the dust pan! I have to dust EVERYDAY! And within 24hours its like I never dusted!

So, you can only imagine my troubles with vacuum cleaners!

I currently have 4 worthless vacuum cleaners that now serve no purpose because they all get too warn down to fast! Thats why I am so frustrated and so skeptical to buying a new vacuum cleaner, because I just don't want to waste anymore money!

-sorry to rant, but I hate my endless dirty house!

I'm also going against the grain . I have a kirby and I love it that thing picks up everything and I can tell the big old bag fills up pretty fast much better than my old one.

another one for dyson. I've had mine for 5 yrs now and it still does an unbelievable job. I have lots of fur due to the pets and does a great job! I didn't even get the expensive "pet hair" model. I just got the regular dyson and its a god send. Works great on carpet and tile. Even gets annoying cat litter!

ARGHHH!#$!$%

You all had me sold on Dyson, but LindseyLouWho threw a serious monkey wrench into this discussion but bringing up the #1 recommendation on Consumer Reports. ARGHHHH! $#@%^ Dyson does not do that well with Consumer Reports. The Kenmore Progressive model is # 1 and its sister model is #2.

I think what rules for me in this decision making process is the # of pet owners who swear by Dyson. Dawgs rule my house (it resembles a kennel), so......hmmm......hope more chick weigh in.

Does CR say why the Dyson doesn't rate so well with them?

I am a big believer in CR, but I have found every once in a while that their recommendations just don't mix with my preferences. I'd be curious to see why they don't like the Dyson.

Wow, there are a lot of Dyson fans here! I have to vote for the Kenmore Progressive, though! The special HEPA filtration bags are awesome, too!

Well, I don't have a dog, but I *do* have a cat, and it picks up her fur off of the carpets and furniture very well.

We have a Dyson Animal (purple one) and LOVE it!!! We got it about 3 years ago off of Overstock.com (it's refurbished). Knock on wood, but it has seriously been a PERFECT vacuum. We have zero complaints.
