Default Does anyone switch to weighing themselves in lbs/kgs?

I have just started weighing myself in kgs because I don't know what that converts to actually and I can easily see if I am increasing or decreasing. Has anyone else tried this to start out? I am too afraid to see what I actually weigh in lbs!

Every so often I switch to kilograms. It's nice to be below 100!

I weigh and count in kgs but everything in this forum is in lbs. So I have kind of a mix. For contests I weigh in in lbs. My ticker is in kgs but also has a BMI indicator to help people understand what kind of thing we are talking about. And if they really don't get it they could always look below my avatar - which has the entire thing in lbs.

Default kgs

I weigh myself at home in lbs, but at work (hospital) our scales only read kgs because I work in peds and all weights are kgs for drug calculations. I also like the kgs because it seems lower, but after awhile you start automatically doing the calcs in your head so I doesn't really matter. Since 1 kg is 2.2 lbs, when you drop a number (ie 88 kg to 87 kg) it seems like a bigger deal...on the other hand it may seem like it is moving slower (if you lose a pound, it only shows as .6 kg), so that can be fustrating. In the end its all the same, but whatever we can do to motivate ourselves is a plus!!

Since I moved to Asia, I bought a manual kg scale and I hate it! My scale has only gone down 6 marks or 3 kg since I bought it... but that's 6.6 lbs! A loss of even .2 lbs is so encouraging to me but instead I have to stare at the same mark until I can lose the 1.1 lbs to move it down half a kilo.

Long story short--hate kilos!

By the way, I have the next many kilo-to-lbs conversions memorized. So when I next hit 73 kg, I already know I'll weigh 160.6 lbs. It hasn't fooled me at all.

I live overseas so i was using a kilo scale for a while. but then i found a digital scale that has kilos, lbs and stones. so now i weight my pounds. i feel better when i see pounds. because with kilos the weight loos sees slower because 1 pound is only a half of kilo.

That's a really interesting idea! To weigh in, but in a system whose numbers don't have the emotional baggage as the numbers you're used to ...

Heh. I grew up overseas so kg or lb doesn't matter to me. I still have an emotional tie to the number. It would be nice if it worked though.

In fact I automatically convert back and forth in my head, no matter what I weigh in.

i weigh myself in kg, and convert to pounds for the site. After a while you get pretty good at converting roughly in your head

that's a really good idea, but how do you know how much your losing and if it's normal? Do you convert it, or just look for downward trends? thinking about trying it.

i know how much is healthy to lose in kg- about half a kg a week. Then it doesnt matter which way i cut it, in pounds or kg, if ive lost around half a kg its still going to be healthy in pounds.

I just weigh myself in kgs because like someone said, it doesn't have the baggage. Like, if I have a bad day and go up, it is by a much smaller amount and I don't freak out about it. I just look for a downward trend. It will be kind of interesting to weigh myself after a few months to see how much I really weigh!

[The below is written in white in case you don't want to know the rough, ROUGH conversion of kilograms to grams. Highlight it to see it.]
Isn't 1 kg somewhere in and around 2 lbs? Or something like that? So isn't it also healthy to lose about 1 kg per week?

kgs are a total mystery to me, but I worked in a cold deli for about a year.. so I know all the stupid numbers little numbers. 1/4 of a lb is 114 grams, 1/2 a lb is 227, 1 lb is 454 grams... (I might be a BIT off, I'm guessing at the numbers, it's been a while, hehe). But once you get into full kilos, I blank, so it could work for me, muwaha.

1 kg = 2.2 lbs (highlight over to see)

It's just so automatic for me to convert back and forth that it doesn't help either way for me.
