Good morning, USA! I can't smell any turkey cooking way up here but it's early yet. If I go to town later, I may get a turkey cutlet for dinner so I can join the festivities. I am amazed at some of the menus I've been reading!
Donna comes to clean this morning so I need to scurry around tidying up. (Those dogs just won't put their toys away!) This time tomorrow morning I'll have three dogs as the Pypers are dropping off Bailey while they go away for the weekend. This should be interesting as Jazz is about the size of B's head! They'll be back Sunday afternoon and probably stay for dinner. It's sure going to be a busy weekend!
Time to get the day underway with coffee and a dog cuddle - plus lugging garbage through the snow to the road. The joys of rural living!
Enjoy yourselves today if you are celebrating Thanksgiving and cut yourself some indulgence slack.
Ruth, I'll be popping my turkey in the oven around 10, and I'll wave the fumes your way! I don't have too much to get ready this morning, we did a lot last night. But I DO have to run out to find a grocery store that's open. Jake used up most of the milk yesterday, and I forgot to get some creamed corn for the corn pudding.
Don't forget to count your blessing today, whatever you're doing, and I hope you all have a happy day.
Happy Thanksgiving all.... In the past 24 hours I've heard a few expressions for this day.... "turkey day" "Gobble day" ... all to do with food or gluttones. While it is a day of eating, it should also be a day of THANKSGIVING to God for the bounty of food He's provided us with!
I do pray everyone here has a blessed time with their family and friends.
Morning Ladies! Hope everyone has a joyous day with family and or friends!
Still have no idea what we are doing food wise today since we are forgoing the usual Thanksgiving feast here due to paint, but I'm sure whatever it is will be fun even if we end up at Applebee's! I meant to make reservations somewhere yesterday, but then forgot all about it and I doubt we can get in to any good restaurants today. But, whatever is fine with me! I'm just thankful for my great family and happy to have at least 2 of my kids here with me for the day. (especially since it's the 2 that can move big furniture!) but it sure would be nice if my daughter was here too. Can't wait till we are all together at Christmas! I can smell that Christmas Eve gumbo now....

Apparently the kitties have decided that it's extra fun to run around the house at 4 am if the human came home at 11:30.
Ruth - We drove half an hour into the mountains and I found the snow! Luckily still none here. Dog cuddles sound like the perfect way to start a day.
Cottage - Good luck with the grocery run. I've had to do that and it's always an adventure. I know you will enjoy your family time today
Loriann - Are you getting snow where you are? I was trying to figure out where the lake effect was landing. Will you and the dogs get an extra walk today? Hope you enjoy your day off no matter how you spend it!
Cat - Enjoy the painting party Sounds like you will make the most of it.
As for us we aren't big holiday celebrators so it will be a mellow day. We are volunteering at the community dinner for a few hours this afternoon (DP is playing music, I'm helping in the kitchen). Other than that I am making some traditional favorites just for fun but not too much. I'm really looking forward to getting out for a walk and relaxing at home.
Thanks for all the support and friendship this past year. I love this place
Cottage Good luck finding a store that is open. I have 2 Walmarts within 5 minutes of me, so I wouldn't have a problem.
Loriann Amen! Isn't that the truth?????
Cyndi I think that is wonderful that you are volunteering today. That is a tradition that I have GOT to start with my daughters.
Femme Enjoy your day! Christmas sounds like it will be fun. On the rare occasion that my siblings and I are all together are some of my mom's favorite times. How is your daughter doing? (She is in California, right?)
Me- We are going to hang close to home this morning, watch the parades on TV, clean a bit. We are meeting Rob's family for lunch at 1:00, then after that will go to my cousin's for a bit. Should be a pretty low-key day, which always works for me!
I was woken up by my girls this morning- big Happy Thanksgiving hugs and then my almost 7 year old making us tell her what we are thankful for. She is so cute.
Good morning, all! The turkey's in the oven and it already smells WONDERFUL! We're going to have breakfast and then head to the park with the dogs to play some disc golf and get some exercise in.
Wow. We stayed up late moving/packing/unpacking/painting last night. ALL my Mary Kay stuff (besides business cards) arrived, so I have taken over 1 entire closet for all that. I have more samples than I know what to do with! I'm sure they'll go quickly. The thing that was most exciting was the $113.50 of makeup that I got for free! I can't wait to try it on today!!!
Well, Happy Turkey (and Tofurky) Day to everyone! Gotta get in the shower and start moving again! Everyone be thankful and blessed!
Thanks for all the support and friendship this past year. I love this place
Here here! I will toast to that this morning with my
SO, its Thanksgiving and I have so much to be Thankful for...including each and every one of you! I am trying not to make this day be too much about the food, although, a feast is inevitable! We will be having a large group of friends to my moms so I am going to concentrate on the time I get to spend with them instead of the food and wine!
Hope you call have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Indulge a little, and concentrate on the good stuff- like loved ones and legal foods
Kitties and Doggies have eaten their thanksgiving feasts and I am sure will be resting shortly... we don't give them canned food unless its a special occasion... I am sure we will be bringing back some bits of turkey as well for them to enjoy!
Brian really wanted a chocolate cherry cheesecake (and I did have some pie filling with Splenda I needed to use up) so that is in the oven. He wants to have the turkey around dinner time so I have hours yet before I need to put it in. He's made no mention of wanting to see his Dad but I think I'm going to insist we do a short visit while the turkey is in the oven. It's the right thing to do.
We're back from our Thanksgiving day activities and starting to prepare for tomorrow's activities. I'm finishing thawing the roast in the sink and will braise and prepare it tonight to cook through the night. Cutting and peeling potatoes is DH's job. I can't really do much else tonight other than just getting organized.
It's going to be an early night as it will be an equally early day tomorrow. I plan to get up around 3 for BF sales.
Hey girlies! Thanksgiving was great... I ate too much all in one plate! Didn't go back for seconds though... although, we ate at 2 and I could definitely get into some of the leftovers now!!! lol I have been drinking wine all day and thats probably the worst thing I have done all day... not feeling too guilty about it though! Hope everyone had a great Turkey Day!
