I am scheduled to have bypass on the 9th of December. I have never been diagnosed as diabetic, however like everyone else I was taking 500 mg of Metformin 3x a day. My surgeon would prefer that I not take the meds during my 2 wk protien shake only diet before surgery unless I NEED to. I have ran out of my script before and went a few weeks at a time before I was able to get in to the Dr. for a refill so going without doesn't worry me, however going without and drinking protien shakes only kind of concerns me....

The only problem I forsee is during these two weeks what do I do if I get shaky, or do you only get shaky because you had too much sugar to begin with and then your levels dropped?? Anyone been through this before????

What kind of protein shakes will you be drinking? If it is the same kind as post surgery, there is very little sugar, and not likely to cause many spikes (which in turn cause the shakes). If you weren't diabetic, you probably have nothing to be concerned about.

My sister Amy3FC had GB and she also has PCOS and was diabetic prior to surgery. She never had any need for medication when she was on shakes, and her Diabetes also went away completely.
