1200 calories a day sounds pretty low given your current weight and the fact that you're working out 5x a week.
I'd say raise your calories a bit.
Also, what *type* of working out are you doing? Maybe you need to mix things up a bit. Throw in some weight lifting, some resistance work, switch up the cardio to HIIT, that kind of hting.
Muscle doesn't actually weigh more than fat, it's just DENSER than fat. So a pound of muscle is a whole heck of a lot smaller than a pound of fat.
But it takes a LOT to gain enough muscle weight to offset fat weight. It really really does.
In general it takes a woman doing an average workout (that includes weight lifting) several months to gain 3 lbs of muscle. Serious weight lifters who focus all of their exercise and diet towards gaining muscle usually do so at a rate of .5 lb a week. Most people here are simply not working that hard at building muscle and certainly not eating in a way to facilitate that kind of muscle growth.
And, if you're doing only cardio, you might not be building any muscle at all.

photochick-since i can't go to the gym ,i exercise home, wich i did before too...cardio-runing on the treadmill, speed 5.5 or 6 for about 30 minutes...i burn 300-400 cals, just there and then sometimes i do aerobics....and this is about it...ok...see ...i heard that weight lifting is good...but i don't know what to do and how to do it...we have a bowflex my husband bought....but i don't know what to do with it....any ideas? please share
Try increasing your calories and also look at what you are eating and make sure you are counting all the calories you eat. Do you measure or journal? Whatever you do don't give up!
I would have to say increase your calories a bit too....I exercise 6 days a week and mix it up between cardio (mainly jogging), weight lifting and pilates or yoga. Did a little book come with your bowflex? It should have! Lots of good ideas to start off with in there
romance dive, didn't came with a book, came with a dvd, wich i watch ones, i did some of the movements, but i don't feel sewating much...so i believe i don't do it right...don't know for sure, and my husband is always bizzy
So far I like Daily Plate on Livestrong.com. It has a calculator that you can put in your current weight, how much you'd like to lose per week and lets you track your exercise as well. I only just started using it, but assuming it works plug your numbers in there and see what it says about your calorie consumption.
Also it puts a little chart up showing ratio of carbs to fats to protein. Depending on what weight loss method you are using it can help you make sure those things are balanced the way you want them to be.
Well, I combine a bunch of stuff in my working out.
I lift weights 3x a week (mixing up what I do each time).
On days that I lift weights, I finish up with about 20-30 mins of cardio on the elliptical or treadmill.
On days that I don't lift weights, I do 30 mins of HIIT cardio of some kind or I take a class of some kind.
The big thing is to not do the same thing every day or the same thing week to week to week. Your body adapts to the exercise you do and the longer you do the same thing, the less effective it is for your body.
If you keep switching things up, your body never has a chance to get into a routine and adapt.
