Talking New and starting it slow

Hi All! i am new to this whole blogging and forum stuff, but am so excited to have found a place where everyone is the same, and venting is ok. i am not on any particular diet right now, my biggest thing is cutting out candy and soda...both of which are going to be very difficult, but so far this morning I have not had either and i am doin alright. Was wondering if anyone had any advice for a newbie? Anything is welcome!

Thanks!! and i hope to meet some great friends here!

Jessie

Default some tips for you

Hi Jessie,

Here are some tips for you:

1) Make sure you don't buy the candy and the pop. If you don't have it in your home, you are much less likely to consume it. If you feel the need to cheat, you are going to have to go to a store to do it. This is usually enough to dissuade you.

2) Try eating an apple and hour before every meal. Not only are they naturally sweet, but they will help you digest whatever meal you will be having.

Good luck!

Hi Jessie and welcome to the group!!

My advice would be to read, read, read. The more you read, the more you see others who are just like you, and deal with the same battles. You will gain not only knowledge, but a sense of belonging and understanding for how others are feeling. You will find many people who share your same concerns, and from these people, you can find inspiration.

Good luck to you and I hope to talk to you more!

If you have to have bubbles try seltzer with lemon or lime.
Don't substitute club soda because that has sodium. Seltzer does not have sodium.

Diet soda in a pinch if you can't help yourself and need a cola flavored drink. There are plenty of cons to doing diet drinks but better than full sugar soda.

Good luck.

hi Jessie,

welcome to 3FC! and congratulations on starting your journey to a healthier you! i, too am a newbie, and just started a few days ago. i think my biggest piece of advice is, as you said, starting slow, and taking it day by day. in the past, i have been disappointed with looking too far into the future and wanting results right away, that i would get discouraged and just quit. each day that you didn't have any soda or candy is an accomplishment in itself. try setting mini-goals. and we are all here for you if you need to vent or for help or anything.

do you like fruits? that always helps my craving for something sweet or dessert-like, especially after a meal.

good luck! :0)

Thank you all so much for your advice, it is so nice to finally be in a place where people believe in you! Unfortunately as the day went on today I started getting sicker and sicker, and by the time I got home I felt the need to eat and eat and eat....but I didn't! I had dinner with my family and for desert I had sugar free jello. I still feel sick...more fluish but am very proud of me...Thanks again!!!

Congratulations Jessie! You should be very proud of yourself. Its hard enough to deny our cravings as it is, but when you are sick all you truly want is your comfort food. So a big kudos to you for sticking to plan even though you were feeling crappy and needed comfort. You Rock!
