I have an old copy of the SBD book. But I have read here that the new Supercharged SBD book says we may have two servings of dairy a day...ie, LF or FF milk or plain yogurt? Is that correct? I thought I read here that this is a real good idea that helps with the SBD "flu"
I went to the store today looking for plain yogurt. I'm a little confused. The plain yogurts I looked at had very high sugar grams. I thought I'd ask here before I bought any. I have also read about Greek yogurt. Is there an advantage to the Greek over the regular plain? Also, I see that some of you make your own yogurt. How wonderful! I have so much to learn!
Thank you in advance!

I don't know the answer, TripMom, but I wanted to send some good vibes your way. Personally, I snack on cheese, and sometimes add some cheese to my main meal. I also eat low-fat, SF yogurt for snack and/or dessert. I am still breastfeeding my 10.5 old son and can't really afford to cut down on my calcium. I also take a calcium supplement. I am sure you'll get the answer here, there are so many knowledgable women here, so you have come to the right place. Good luck!

TripMom, the amount of dairy has been increased since the first version of the book came out. When you are shopping for yogurt, make sure you are shopping for lowfat or fatfree plain yogurt. The sugars listed are from the lactose in it, not any added sugars, so just try to find the brand with the lowest sugars if you can. You can add your own variations at home, such as SF jello powder or Crystal Light, cinnamon & Splenda, or even SF cocoa mix if you wish.
I hope this clears things up for you, and good luck. You sound like you're really getting prepared for a successful Phase 1!
I have also read about Greek yogurt. Is there an advantage to the Greek over the regular plain? Also, I see that some of you make your own yogurt. How wonderful! I have so much to learn!
If you can find Greek yogurt, it is more expensive but most here like the taste and consistency better. It's more like sour cream. There are many flavored and sweetened versions but make sure you buy the plain unflavored unsweetened ones that are lowfat or fat free. Greek yogurt also has a much higher protein content and is usually free of many additives used in commercial yogurts. Oikos and Fage are two brands as well as Trader Joe's. My Walmart has the Oikos brand. I add splenda (1pkt. per 1/2 cup with a little vanilla extract added to it.
TripMom, Cottage gave you the right info. The thing is, you're looking in the ingredient list for sugar (or sugar variotions, like dextrose or fructose, or corn syrup, etc.), not the sugar grams. There are, sadly, some "plain" yogurts that also have sugar (like Wegman's Super Yogurt, which makes me so sad!).
Thank you all for the information. You cleared it up so well for me and even answered another question I had, but hadn't asked yet. I was wondering about Crystal Light. I suppose all the "add-ons" like Crystal Light, SF powdered jello, FF Cool Whip are to be counted toward our daily extra calories?
Thank you again
