Default Special K

So I am doing Low Calorie. I know I have heard that Chocolate in moderation really is okay for anyone. I bought the Special K Chocolate Chunk just for a little switch up in my breakfast or snack. Is this really a good snack I mean it says 3/4 cups is 120 calories. Yes I know I could eat something probably more filling but it does have fiber in it and it could help with cravings of sweets I think too. Do you think this is a bad choice? They advertise it as a good snack?

If the cereal has whole grains in it, then 120 calories isn't too bad.

BUT!

Chocolate in moderation is fine...just as pretty much anything in moderation is fine. There are a lot of health people who talk about the health benefits of chocolate. These are very valid. However, when they say chocolate, they do not mean that regular old Hershey bar, and most likely not the chocolate in Special K. They are referring to dark chocolate, like 70% cacao and above.

A great dark chocolate is Dagoba Eclipse, which is 87% cacao. A bar of it is 220 calories, which is pretty standard (if on the light side for chocolate). What I do is eat half at a time (110 cals). You can melt it onto fruit, eat it straight, do whatever. It's a tasty treat!

That is fine for an occasional snack. Remember that you need to develop an eating plan that you can sustain for a lifetime. If you enjoy the snack and it serves that purpose then it is fine. It is definetly better then other choices.

For me when I want chocolate I have chocolate. 2 Hershey kisses, 1 minature Dove etc. Both of those choices are 75 calories or less. I also love Slim-a-Bear icecrea with chocolate shell.

I think it's fine so long as you can stay within your calories and you're not starving. I drink chocolate soy milk for the same reason. It's healthy but it helps satisfy my sweet tooth. I have learned that I really, really, really crave sugar and if I don't get it I end up ravenous. I try and combine with healthy things, chocolate soy milk, yogurt, lots and lots of fruit.

Mebbe once my weight is stabilized I'll play with cutting down on the sugar but for now, I am rolling with it.

I agree as long as it is something that you can stick to. But if it was me and I wanted a chocolate fix I would go with the dark chocolate. It is a lot better than cereal!!

Do you guys get Green and Blacks chocolate in the States? They have the most amazing 70% chocolate and its so rich you cant really eat more than a few squares a day and it cures those cravings so well! They also do mini bars so you wont be able to scoff a whole big bar down you neck!!

If we do, it must be in specialty stores. I haven't seen it.

Yes, we have Green & Blacks.

If you guys are looking for it and can't find it, look in the health food section at Kroger grocery stores...or look at places like Walgreens or other stores, where the higher end (big) bars of premium chocolate are: with the big Cadbury, Dove, etc. type bars...
