Any advice for when you start into Ph2?

  • I am only on day five of SB but really excited and looking forward to eventually add back in some different food and having control! But the reason that I didn't stick with the diet last time was because Ph2 came and I went for the carbs way too fast, not listening to the book, and eventually fell back into my old ways! So, does anyone have advice on how I can make this transition easier?
  • I was recently in your position! I started the SB diet two months ago, and so far it's gone pretty well (I've lost 23 pounds so far). Making the transition to phase two was challenging for me, too - I was very afraid that I'd lose control and go carb crazy after not eating them for two weeks. One thing that I saw recommended on the boards here that was really helpful to me was the idea of slowly reintroducing carby foods. I went through a period of something like phase 1.5, where I picked one thing that I wanted to reintroduce (apples). I continued to eat the same stuff I did on phase one, with the exception of an apple replacing my morning snack. The next week, I added a grain (oatmeal) in addition to the apple, and then from there, week by week, added in fruits and grains until I'd found a pattern that worked for me that included the appropriate number of grains and fruit (and still including the veggies, protein, etc. you need on the diet).

Good luck with the rest of phase one and transitioning to phase two!
  • This thread in the stickies for South Beach has some helpful links.

Hope this helps. There are answers to most questions in the SB FAQ stickies.
  • Thanks for the advice and the link!
  • Bky, there are tons of good threads in the FAQ about transitioning to Phase 2. Here are links to two (one of which has a ton of links to different P2 threads):

What's your P2 Combo? This thread addresses both how to transition and what the end results were (how many starches, how much fruit, etc, people could eat without cravings while losing weight in P2) for various people.

If anyone wants to share tips on transitioning to Phase 2, please share them in the P2 Combo thread (link is above) so that we can all find the information quickly and easily. Thanks!
