Default Have any of you ever locked your food?

I've been stuck at 245 forever! Down from my high of 260, () but still not much progress So I was talking about it with my daughter, and she jumped up and said she knows what to do. She went and got some twine and scissors, and began tying up the cabinets and fridge (this was after dinner. she knows I do most of my eating between midnight and 1:00AM). I told her then she can't eat for the rest of the night either. She said that's fine. She took two apples out of the fridge and put them on a plate on the table in case I get hungry after she goes to bed. She left a note next to the plate that said "I know you get hungry at night. Have the apples. I know you can do it! xoxo".

And I did do it!! I was thinking I could cut the twine, take what I want, and tie the doors up again. But that would have been too much trouble, and there was the nice note of the table. So I was good last night!

I'm feeling again like I can do it. It's a good feeling.

I don't lock my food or anything, but if you find locking your cupboards and fridge up works for you, I'd suggest you keep doing it .

That was sweet of your daughter! I have DH hide foods that become a problem for me, and even though I usually know where they are hidden, it really makes me think twice about eating it.

Just a few weeks ago, I cleared out a kitchen cabinet that we don't use too often and put all of my husband's snack food in there. And that really helps!! Not seeing cookies and chips when I open up the pantry makes it much, much easier to choose a healthy snack.

I've never done quite that, but I have thrown away food that I would otherwise be tempted by and I have moved things to bags in the bottom of the pantry if I knew I couldn't (for whatever reason) trash them.

Whatever works to help keep you on plan.

Whatever works! I think the little mental things we do to keep us from dipping into those cookies/chips/ice cream/whatever really does make a big difference! Yes, we all know we COULD get to the snack foods, but it makes us think twice!

I have not locked any doors but I have taped a picture of myself (from highschool when I was much thinner) on the fridge and cupboard door. When I go to open the door I see the picture and remind myself of what I want to look like again. I also have hubby hide his snacks (although he usually buys stuff he knows I don't like so that I am not tempted) What ever works

I agree with what's been said so far, do whatever it takes right now to keep you going and help with your weight loss.
It's awesome that your daughter is getting involved and being so supportive.
I personally won't lock up food as my father used to do that when I was young and would ration everything out for my sister, brother and I.
Sometimes I think that my uncontrolled eating has to do with having things locked up as a child. When ever I got a treat I would eat it as fast as I could for fear that it might be gone if I didn't have it right away.
Having said that though, if it works for you now as an adult, I say go for it!
Congrats on your weight loss so far!

lol~ locking up the cabinets was a cute idea The apples out on the table with the note, really caring and supportive!

I used to have a roomate years and years ago... she would put a piece of masking tape on the (cookie) cabinet and freezer to remind her that she already had her cookies for the day. She was super tiny.. but I suppose the tape just sent a reminder message to her? o.O

Maybe I'll try it with my halloween candy!!!

It takes what it takes. If that works...then do it!

I will throw away food that I can't stay out of once in a while - I cover it with dishwashing soap in the trash. Sometimes DH has candy around - I'll keep it in his top drawer. But, if it 'calls to me' - then in the trash it goes.

Your daughter is very kind and helpful. It's wonderful.

I agree with everyone else do what you have to keep on track. And that was so sweet of your daughter! I still keep cookies and ice cream in my house because I have young kids. Normally I would help myself to their treats but I make sure to buy cookies and icecream I don't like so I am not tempted. They still enjoy their occasional peanut butter cup ice cream and cookies and it lasts so much longer since I can't stand anything with peanut butter in.
